The progressive PAC known as Justice Democrats has announced their support for Jessica Cisneros to primary Democratic Texas Rep. Henry Cuellar of the 28th Congressional District. Cuellar has represented his district since 2005.
Justice Democrats gained the national spotlight last cycle after endorsing Reps. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (N.Y.), Rashida Tlaib (Mich.), Aryanna Pressley (Mass.), Pramila Jayapal (Wash.), Ro Khanna (Calif.), Raul Grijalva (Ariz.), and Ilhan Omar (Minn.).
Cisneros, 26, is running on a progressive platform that includes the following:
- $15 federal minimum wage
- Medicare for All
- Green New Deal
- Free public college
- Increasing taxes
- Expanding social security
- Pro-abortion rights
- Opposes construction of border wall
We’re proud to announce our first new candidate of 2020: @JCisnerosTX!

Justice Democrats were not supportive of Cuellar on multiple issues, including being backed by the National Rifle Association, defunding sanctionary cities and banning federal funding for abortion. In April, the organization said it was in the works of creating its own team, infrastructure and fundraising for challengers to take on Democratic incumbents. The Democratic National Committee formally announced it will not support a challenge to Democratic incumbents.
