FROM THE SOUTHERN BORDER – Parents are crossing the United States-Mexico border illegally every day, however, they are bringing their children along with them at an alarming rate.
The Washington Times reported the Trump administration response to this growing crisis:
“The families are being enticed by ‘loopholes’ in U.S. laws that give more lenient treatment to parents who arrive with children.”
This loophole derives from the current U.S. immigration enforcement efforts of ‘catch and release.’
Each day parents, along with their children, are released into a community while they await their immigration court hearing rather than staying within the processing detention centers. Contrary to if they did not bring their child, illegal aliens would be kept in a processing center as they await their court hearing or ultimate extradition from the United States.
According to the U.S. Customs and Border Protection Agency latest press release , “This fiscal year to date, CBP has seen a more than 300 percent increase in the number of family units apprehended compared to the same time period in fiscal year 2018.”
As family units continuously penetrate the perimeter, border agents are spending more time processing more individuals, and less time guarding our border furthering a financial deficit and security threat.
Each day Congress delays funding the southern border wall, it poses a massive humanitarian, financial, and security crisis. The Department of Homeland Security Secretary Neilsen, many members of Congress, and President Bush’s “Secure Fence Act of 2006 ” all have advocated and proved successful results by building a barricade along our southern border.
A secured barricade at the border will enforce family immigration through the port of entry, reduce the backup of our immigration court, and put a stop to the “catch and release” enforcement effort.
