Former Obama Immigration Chiefs Agree: We Have a Border Crisis

Two former Obama administration immigration officials slammed back against Democrats on border facts. The two Obama immigration chiefs publicly agreed with President Donald Trump’s assertion that there is a crisis at the southern border.

Mark Morgan, former Chief of the U.S. Border Patrol in the Obama-era, published an op-ed for Fox News [1] stating, “The entire immigration system is overrun. They’re not at the breaking point, they’re past it.”

Morgan had a front-row seat for the “Cath and Release” program and saw its policy failure over the course of time and as migrants from Honduras, Guatemala, and El Salvador increased. The policy mandated agents to release undocumented immigrants into the U.S. even though they have not been formally processed.

In El Paso migrant families have overwhelmed detention facilities and caused agents to release illegal immigrants in cities like Phoenix, San Antonio, and Albuquerque because border towns are over capacity according to AP [2].

On “Cavuto LIVE” former Obama Department of Homeland Security Secretary Jeh Johnson said [3] the 4,000 apprehensions in a single day was far greater than what he saw while on duty in his three years.

During an on-air interview [4] current Homeland Security Secretary Kirstjen Nielsen said the border crisis is not manufactured, and all options are on the table. All options include placing military along the border.

“We are bringing all of the agencies together; we’re asking everybody to chip in,” said Nielsen. Today, Nielsen heads to the Texas-Mexico border to talk with authorities.

Nielsen, Johnson, and Morgan’s comments come on the heels of President Trump threatening to close the border this week.

President Trump shut down all aid [5] to Central America as caravans continue to overwhelm border patrol authorities. The U.S. Customs and Border Patrol still remains on track for 1 million apprehensions [6] by the end of the fiscal.
