FROM THE BORDER – On Thursday, President Donald Trump said he has a dramatic statement regarding the southern border because Democrats will not act or come to the table to provide solutions with Republicans.

“We are going to be having a major statement sometime today or tomorrow,” Trump told a group of reporters outside of the White House. “Most people agree — the Democrats agree too — but they won’t give us the legislation you need to fix it.”

Trump reaffirmed this will be his biggest statement on the border. A reporter asked him if he would be closing the border.

“I’m not closing the border, I”m doing something else,” he said.

The acting Homeland Security Secretary Kevin McAleenan is traveling to Guatemala, but he told reporters he spoke with the president. He declined to provide any additional information about the statement.

ICE acting director Mark Morgan, has supported Trump and says his agency understands the threat at the southern border. He recently took to Fox to highlight the challenges and need to fix the immigration system.

According to a report from the Republican National Committee using Department of Homeland Security data, over the past two months, more than 100,000 migrants have arrived.

An estimated 1 million migrants will arrive at the border by the end of 2019.

About two weeks ago, Trump proposed a broad immigration plan geared towards reforming border security and legal immigration. The plan had limited congressional interest and stopped there.
