A man so kooky he has said he believes President Trump was framed by the Department of Justice has been hired to the president’s legal team, the mainstream media reported.

“Trump to hire lawyer who pushed theory DOJ framed Trump,” CNN reported. “President Donald Trump will hire an attorney to join his personal legal team who has alleged the president is being framed by a group of FBI and Justice Department officials, two sources familiar with the matter told CNN,” the story began.

“Joseph diGenova, who alleges FBI plot to frame Trump, joins president’s legal team,”the NBC News piece was headlined. “He said officials in the FBI and Justice Department wanted to ‘frame Donald Trump with a falsely created crime.’”

“President Donald Trump has added a longtime Washington lawyer to his legal team who has publicly promoted a conspiracy theory that officials in the FBI and Justice Department are plotting to frame the president with a ‘false crime’ in the Russia investigation.”

SFGate, a San Francisco-based news site, headlined its story: “Trump is reportedly hiring conspiracy theorist for his legal team.”

These stories report that there may be other things that qualify diGenova to work in the White House – he is a former U.S. Attorney for the District of Columbia, served as an independent counsel and special counsel in the 1990s and was hired by the New York State Senate to investigate Gov. Eliot Spitzer, a Democrat.

But SFGate says that’s not what got him hired.

“DiGenova clearly has experience. But what may make him most attractive to Trump is his thoughts on this particular case,”their story said. “He told Fox News back in January that the investigation is a ‘brazen plot to illegally exonerate Hillary Clinton and, if she didn’t win the election, to then frame Donald Trump with a falsely created crime.”

DiGenova also said this year that Deputy FBI Director Andrew McCabe should be fired, that James Comey, the former FBI director fired by Trump last year, should be arrested, that a federal grand jury should be impaneled to look into the FBI and Justice Department conduct in these matters and that this is the “largest law enforcement scandal in history.”

The interview in which diGenova said people within the FBI and DOJ were out to get Trump “was just the most notable in a series of TV interviews that seem, in a way, to have been auditions for joining Trump’s legal team,” SFGate stated. “We know that Trump seems to value it when people say things he likes on cable TV, and diGenova has supplied no shortage of that.”

The New York Times broke the story of diGenova joining the legal team under the headline, “Trump hires Lawyer Who Has Pushed Theory That Justice Dept. Framed the President.”

“Mr. diGenova has endorsed the notion that a secretive group of FBI agents concocted the Russia investigation as a way to keep Mr. Trump from becoming president,” the Times wrote. “Little evidence has emerged to support that theory.”

A Rasmussen poll last month showed about half the country believes Trump may have been framed by the FBI and Department of Justice. But to the mainstream media, that’s crackpot thinking, and diGenova, a respected former prosecutor, is just another crackpot in TrumpWorld.
