President Donald Trump condemned a Washington Post report based on anonymous sourcing claiming that he would pardon lawbreakers doing whatever is necessary to complete 500 miles of southern border fencing by election day 2020.

In the Post story, White House spokesman Hogan Gidley “said Trump is joking when he makes such statements about pardons … He called internal criticisms of the president ‘just more fabrications by people who hate the fact the status quo, that has crippled this country for decades.’”

In a tweet, Trump called the Post’s pardon allegation false.

“Another totally Fake story in the Amazon Washington Post (lobbyist) which states that if my Aides broke the law to build the Wall (which is going up rapidly), I would give them a Pardon,” the President tweeted. “This was made up by the Washington Post only in order to demean and disparage – FAKE NEWS!”
