The term Latinx may be offensive to Hispanics, but that won’t stop progressives

A new poll of Hispanics blows the lid off their woke assigned designation of “Latinx” even as the progressive press tries to support their favorite elites use of the term.

A new poll by Bendixen and Amandi shows not only a lack of support for the gender-neutral term among Hispanics, but a good deal of hostility as well.

Only 2 percent of those polled refer to themselves as Latinx, while 68 percent call themselves Hispanic and 21 percent favored Latino or Latina to describe their ethnic background, according to the survey from Bendixen & Amandi International, a top Democratic firm specializing in Latino outreach,” reported Politico.

More problematic for Democrats, 40 percent said Latinx bothers or offends them to some degree and 30 percent said they would be less likely to support a politician or organization that uses the term.

Despite being unpopular, the progressive press still wants Hispanics to stop complaining because, as NBC News reports, young people like the term.

A new report found most Latinos have not heard of the word [Latinx]— and among those who have, only a small minority use it to describe themselves. Yet it’s part of a growing movement toward gender-inclusive language, especially among young people,” said NBC.

A growing movement of some to relabel others for political purposes.

Vox even made a helpful cartoon to explain why the term is “growing in popularity.”

Oprah.com didn’t include a cartoon but gave a grammar tour on how use the term in September, as its writer, Irina Gomez, explained that Latinx was way to clear up the confusion among Hispanics about race.

But even NBC says the term is only favored by progressive Hispanics and “as well as scholars, writers and civil rights advocates,” although it still claims that term is more inclusive than “Latino”.

But in reality the word “Latinx” actually seems to be a word used to divide us up even more. That’s likely what’s so appealing about the term to progressives.

For white people, the use of the word is freighted with charges of insensitivity whether they use the term or not or maybe because they use the term or not. And for Hispanics, the term smacks of labels forced on them by elitists.

Yet even as offensive and as dangerous as these words are shown to be in polls, that’s not stopping progressives from forcing schools to teach young kids to use the language.

Public schools, like the Seattle school district, are using the term Latinx as if some state authority had decreed it. And the term Latinx abounds in education culture.

How will it benefit society when the custodian of culture like the press and the education apparatus combine to relabel people as “Latinx” a term they find offensive or at the least very inaccurate?
