“What annoys me most about white people is when they pretend to play the victim,” says actress and comedian Amanda Seales. “What’s also annoying is when they kill us.” Those are the opening lines of a trailer for Showtime’s upcoming documentary, “Everything’s Gonna Be All White,” which seeks to confront “the facets of racism, exploitation and discrimination that contributed to the formation of America.”
No one argues that we shouldn’t confront the history of racism and slavery in America. Learning from our past mistakes and moral failings as a country is an important part of building a better future for everyone, but this documentary doesn’t acknowledge any of the progress that America has made over the years. Instead, “Everything’s Gonna Be All White“ paints a portrait of America as a country where innocent black people are shot en masse by the police on a daily basis. That’s a popular narrative that the media likes to push, but it’s a lie.
According to The Washington Post’s own database of fatal police shootings, only 14 unarmed black victims and 25 unarmed white victims were killed by police in 2019. Studies have shown that the public wildly overestimates how many unarmed black men are killed by police each year and it’s because of media hyperbole and race-baiting “documentaries” like this latest one from Showtime.
It’s possible to recognize that unjust police killings sometimes occur while also acknowledging that America as a whole is not a racist country. Everything’s Gonna Be All White refuses to accept any nuance when it comes to race like the fact that – as pointed out by the Manhattan Institute’s Heather Mac Donald, “The African-American community tends to be policed more heavily, because that is where people are disproportionately hurt by violent street crime.”
For a documentary that claims to be anti-racist, it’s also ironic that ”Everything’s Gonna Be All White” includes interviews with Linda Sarsour, who’s been widely criticized for her antisemitic views in the past and pals around with noted antisemite, Louis Farrakhan.
Hollywood went woke a long time ago and there are no signs of that slowing down anytime soon. When major studios like Disney aren’t busy bowing to China and censoring their content, they’re making million-dollar deals with racial justice activists Colin Kapernick and pumping out progressive television shows that audiences don’t like.
“Everything’s Gonna Be All White” is only the latest in a string of progressive documentaries that distort the facts about racism in America, including one created by Kaepernick himself which compared the NFL combine to slavery. Kaepernick made millions of dollars as a quarterback for the 49ers. Likening his experience to slavery is absurd, but these are the types of ideas that networks like Showtime continue to preach to their hundreds of millions of impressionable viewers.
