CNN’s Sciutto Lets Anti-Trump Guest Take Over Conversation

CNN’s Jim Sciutto did not push back on an anti-Trump guest who used profanity on the air and tried to shut down a Republican strategist.

Nor did Sciutto challenge him on the intelligence community’s anti-Trump behavior or the aggressive language from former CIA Director John Brennan.

Trump recently stripped Brennan of his security clearance for his public anti-Trump comments. Republican strategist Paris Dennard suggested on CNN that people use their security clearances as a selling point to obtain consulting contracts after leaving government service.

“Well, I will be clear in saying that everybody in Washington, D.C. knows — if you don’t want to be honest about it, that’s on you, — but if you have a security clearance and you keep it, you get more money to have it,” Dennard said.

Phil Mudd, former deputy director of the CIA counterterrorism center, tried to end the conversation.

“We’re done, Jim. We’re done. Get out!” Mudd said. “Twenty-five years in the service, and this is the s*** I get.”

“It’s not your show. I’m staying right here,” Dennard said, advising Mudd to avoid getting defensive.

Sciutto presented a narrative to directly counter Dennard rather than calling out Mudd for using profanity on the air. In doing so, he failed to show deference to each side of the debate.

“Phil, I appreciate your patience,” Sciutto said.

Trump tweeted in support of Dennard, a black millennial, while taking a swipe at Mudd, a middle-aged white man.

Trump tweeted: “Just watched former Intelligence Official Phillip Mudd become totally unglued and weird while debating wonderful @PARISDENNARD [1] over Brennan’s Security Clearance. Dennard destroyed him but Mudd is in no mental condition to have such a Clearance. Should be REVOKED? @seanhannity [2].”
