Accuracy in Media

One of the myriad attacks leveled by liberals against President Donald Trump is that he’s mentally unfit for the job, and a prime candidate to be ousted under the 25th Amendment.

But now, the same media that once pushed that position have steadfastly ignored obvious signs of Democrat Joe Biden’s cognitive decline and possible slide into dementia — something recognized by 38 percent of Americans, according to a recent poll.

Last week, after a Fox News reporter inquired about his cognitive agility, Biden asserted his mental faculties were “constantly tested.”

“All you gotta do is watch me,” the former vice president told reporters, “and I can hardly wait to compare my cognitive capability to the cognitive capability of the man I’m running against.”

His reply raised more questions than it answered. His campaign refuses to explain what Biden meant or provide details about the tests or the results if they in fact occurred.

Yet voters should not look to the mainstream media for answers, as all the nation’s major news outlets have shown no interest in finding out.

A search of their websites reveals no mentions of Biden’s answer in the New York Times, CNN, MSNBC, the Associated Press, ABC, CBS or NBC.

Among the major media, only Politico and the Washington Post bothered to address the matter. And in both instances, the outcome was a redirection.

Politico’s story about Biden’s June 30 presser noted that “negative ads have sought to portray Biden as mentally compromised, but so far, it hasn’t stuck. Two national polls last week show Biden with a double-digit lead over Trump as Americans demonstrated uneasiness about the president’s ability to handle coronavirus.”

Politico failed to note the poll of the public’s thoughts on Biden’s potential dementia, even though that was released a day earlier, and likely served as the basis for the Fox reporter’s question.

Meanwhile, at the Post, columnist Greg Sargent maintained Fox News was “heavily” promoting “the ‘dementia’ line.” He then pointed out that polls show Biden is considered more “even-tempered” and a “good role model,” and “cares about the needs of ordinary people” and is more “honest.”

Yet Sargent steadfastly avoided the same poll and the issue of whether Biden’s mental capability is fading.
