In an article asking “Are Jared and Ivanka Good for the Jews?” The New York Times’ Amy Chozick and Hannah Seligson quoted an anti-Trump Jewish voice accusing Jared Kushner of being a “fig leaf” of support for the Jewish people.
Though the article does include some Jewish defenders of President Trump, whose daughter, son-in-law and grandchildren are Jewish, the Times quotes multiple Jewish sources who try to tie the horrific synagogue massacre to President Trump–without mentioning that the alleged shooter was not a supporter of President Trump and explicitly stated that he opposed President Trump’s policies toward Israel. As the BCC reports, “The suspect was not a Trump supporter – he accused the president in online posts of doing nothing to stop an ‘infestation” by Jews.’”
These facts were not mentioned by The Times.
“In the weeks after a gunman killed 11 people at the Tree of Life Synagogue in Pittsburgh, in one of the most horrific acts of anti-Semitism in years, debates about the president’s role in stoking extremism have roiled American Jews — and forced an uncomfortable reckoning between Mr. Trump’s rhetoric and his daughter and son-in-law’s Jewish faith” The Times reported. “To some Jews, the couple serves as a bulwark pushing the Trump administration toward pro-Israel policies, most notably the decision to move the U.S. embassy from Tel Aviv to Jerusalem . To many others, they are the wolves in sheep’s clothing, allowing Mr. Trump to brush aside criticism that his words have fueled the uptick in violent attacks against Jews.”
The Times also makes no mention of the acceptance of anti-Semitic leaders by the political left, including Women’s March organizer Linda Sarsour, who embraced the anti-Semitic leadership of Louis Farrakhan.
Jewish conservative activist Ben Shapiro took to Twitter to denounce the Times article.
“This article is an absurdity. Tell me more, newspaper that published a list of Jewish populations by district to push the Iran deal, about why the Kushners are bad for the Jews.
He continued “This article only makes sense if you substitute the phrase ‘Democratic Party platform’ or ‘Obama agenda’ for the words Jews and Judaism. It’s a disgrace.”Shapiro ended: “Looking forward to an article from the NYT on whether Ilhan Omar, Rshaida Tlaib, or the NYT is good for the Jews.”
