It has been six days since Tara Reade told her full story about an alleged sexual assault by former Vice President Joe Biden’s sexual assault in 1993 in an interview with journalist Katie Halper, but some mainstream media outlets have not reported on it.
ABC News, CBS News, CNN, NBC News, the Washington Post and the New York Times have chosen not to report on Reade’s allegations. Fox News, Washington Times, The Hill, and several right-leaning and left-leaning outlets have reported on the news (such as Reason, Vox, The Federalist and HuffPost).
Reade told Halper that when she was a Senate aide to then-Delaware Sen. Joe Biden, he sexually assaulted her.
As Accuracy in Media reported, she said that Biden “began kissing her without permission, pushed her against a wall, reached under her skirt, and penetrated her with his fingers.”
Biden’s campaign denied the allegations and said that “these accusations are false” and it is the reporters’ “obligation to rigorously vet those claims.”
In a televised town hall with Biden on the coronavirus last Friday, CNN did not ask any questions related to Reade’s allegations. There have been zero articles published on Reade’s allegations on CNN’s website, which was also repeated on the websites of ABC News, CBS News, NBC News, Washington Post, and New York Times.
Why is the mainstream media choosing to remain silent on Reade’s story?
It is important to note that the mainstream media should take a closer look at Reade’s story and verify its details, as it is a very serious allegation against a presidential candidate. Although most of the media coverage is on the ongoing coronavirus pandemic, it does not excuse the media from covering Reade’s allegations.
Also, considering Biden’s past support for #MeToo activism, the mainstream media should be asking questions whether Reade’s story adds up and should report on it. The mainstream media’s current blackout of Reade’s allegations is detrimental to the media’s integrity and adds more credibility to allegations that the media favors Biden over Trump.
