Major Media Outlets Use Snippets to Distort Lara Trump Story

Major media outlets, including MSNBC, CNN, ABC’s Good Morning America and the Washington Post [1] failed to provide important context or balance in citing snippets — rather than full context — of remarks Lara Trump made about the government shutdown in an interview with me on Bold TV [2].

Lara Trump spoke about the importance of short-term sacrifices with the aim of President Trump’s push for border security and immigration reform, and national outlets twisted her comments to imply that she didn’t care about workers affected by the shutdown. The media also is ignoring that Trump is fulfilling his central campaign promise — which elevated him to the White House — to secure our nation’s borders.

There’s no doubt that American wages — especially the poorest among us — are depressed by illegal immigrants or that Americans along our border suffered property destruction and crime for decades. But the national media has exploited Lara Trump’s words for a distorted purpose — to reject the notion of a shared sacrifice as something foreign to America’s history and values.

Lara Trump tweeted a statement in response to the misleading reporting: [3]

#FakeNews [4] is alive and well. #DontBelieveTheHype [5],” she tweeted, attaching an image with a broder statement: “#FakeNews is rampant these days. Don’t believe the #MSM who overreact without research and didn’t bother to watch my whole interview. They’re completely misrepresenting my words and my support for furloughed workers. My heart goes out to all of the federal workers affected by the shutdown, and we’re fighting every day to end this impasse!

“BTW, if the Democrats really cared about these employees, many of whom support the President’s fight for border security, they’d meet with @realDonaldTrump now!”
