Even the national mainstream media, which spent countless hours and inches speculating and hyping up the Mueller report prior to its release, are conceding that special counsel Robert Mueller’s congressional testimony yesterday was a bust for Democrats’ impeachment cause and sets the party back.
NBC’s “Meet The Press” Twitter announced moderator Chuck Todd’s assessment that “this was a disaster” for House Democrats:
.@chucktodd reacts to Robert Mueller’s testimony to the House Judiciary Committee:
“On optics, this was a disaster” for House Democrats because they were looking for “this dramatic moment that would capture the imagination.”

CNN’s Marshall Cohen called Mueller’s testimony “shaky” and said “Mueller’s style deprived Democrats the made-for-TV moments they hoped to create, possibly to move the needle on impeachment.”
CNN’s Jake Tapper noted , “There were also times when it seemed like he was unfamiliar with parts of the investigation like he didn’t seem familiar with the name GPS”
MSNBC’s Jeremy Bash, a former Obama appointee, said Mueller “kind of sucked the life out of the report.”
NBC News’ Richard Engel said it was “Painful to watch Mueller testimony. So few answers. So many unanswered questions. No flow. Hard to understand the larger issues. Confusing, even if you are deeply steeped in the case.”
The New Yorker’s Susan Glasser said that “It’s all a reminder of something I’ve long believed: the book is almost always better than the movie. History will very likely judge that to be the case with the Mueller report.”
Politico’s Blake Hounshell wrote: “One has to wonder, too, where Democrats go from here.”
