Mainstream Media Miss: Colorado Female Democratic Senate Candidates ask DSCC to Withdraw Hickenlooper Endorsement

Mainstream media missed the mark on reporting that six of seven women running in Colorado’s Democratic Senate primary have formally asked the DSCC [1] to rescind their endorsement of dropout presidential candidate and former Colorado Gov. John Hickenlooper (D).

A Denver ABC affiliate network obtained the letter that was sent to the DSCC on Monday, which was U.S. Women’s Equality Day. The letter lamented “That qualified women are often ‘passed over’ in favor of male candidates.”

The letter, which was signed by Alice Madden, Diana Bray, Stephany Rose Spaulding, Lorena Garcia, Michelle Ferrigno Warren, and state Sen. Angele Williams stated, “We are writing today to urge the Democratic Senatorial Campaign Committee to reconsider its early endorsement of former Governor John Hickenlooper. All of us, like many women in Colorado and across the country, have seen well-qualified women passed over for male candidates in the workplace time and time again.”

DSCC spokeswoman Lauren Passalacqua said, “John Hikenlooper is far and away the strongest candidate to beat Cory Gardner, and we’re proud to support him in his run for Senate.”

The Democratic party prides itself on “diversity,” however in 2019 the Democratic National Committee and the Democratic National Congressional Committee have found themselves in hot water.

Less than a month ago the Executive Director of the DCCC resigned amid members’ complains that the committee’s senior management positions lacked diversity.

In May, the DNC was forced [6] to up their hiring of staff of color in May when they faced backlash that it “has taken minority voters for granted, while overlooking them for jobs and contracts.”
