Journalists like Hadas Gold, a CNN reporter and Jake Silverstein, New York Times Magazine editor-in-chief, both tweeted out photos that began trending on Twitter published by AZ Central with a photograph of two immigrant children sleeping in a chain-link fenced enclosure and a link to an article about their detention facility with additional photos.
Hadas, Silverstein and many liberal activists implied that the photos were the result of the Trump administration’s immigration policies, suggesting the photos were from 2018 and that the children had been separated from their families by Trump officials. Yet these Twitter users were errant in failing to realize that the photos taken at the Arizona detention facility were shot in 2014 (during the Obama administration) and at the time had nothing to do with the non-existent Trump administration.
AZ Central tweeted out a warning about the misleading “news” (that was actually old news) trending on Twitter: “The photos originally posted with this azcentral article about unaccompanied migrant children who were transported to a facility in Arizona.”
Photos of children at a migrant holding facility have gone viral on social media. The pictures are from 2014. They were originally posted with this azcentral article about unaccompanied migrant children who were transported to a facility in Arizona. https://t.co/2DXdszR0SU

Some Twitter users deleted their tweets after realizing the photo was from 2014, under the Obama administration.
Gold deleted the tweet with a statement , “Deleted previous tweet because gave impression of recent photos (they’re from 2014)”
Silverstein also deleted the tweet with a statement : “Correction: this link, which was going around this morning, is from 2014. Still disturbing, of course, but only indirectly related to current situation. My bad (and a good reminder not to RT things while distracted w family on the weekend).”
Silverstein followed up with an additional statement: “Note (which I also noted earlier in separate tweet): this link, which was flying around earlier today, is from 2014. Still disturbing of course, but only indirectly related to current situation. My bad for RT’ing without closer inspection and implying by timing that it’s current”
By deleting the tweets, the irony is that they gave the impression appeared that they only cared about the immigrant children if it the detention happen under President Trump and not President Obama.
