Accuracy in Media

A former Google software engineer turned whistleblower, sat down in an exclusive interview with Sara Carter and a non-profit called Project Veritas that works to expose corruption founded by American journalist, James O’Keefe to uncover Google’s politically aligned algorithms.

The former engineer is one of many to come forward regarding Google’s history in clashing with conservatives. In a recent interview, current republican and former Google engineer, Kevin Cernekee came out against the company on Fox News and in a Wall Street Journal interview stating the tech giant wants Donald Trump to lose in his 2020 re-election. Cernekee believes he was fired for being a conservative after escalating issues within the company to higher authorities.

According to Project Veritas, Google insider, Zachary Vorhies turned over more than 1,000 pages anonymously in June of 2019. However, shortly after the report including the ‘algorithmic unfairness’ documents were published, Vorhies received a letter from Google containing several ‘demands.’ He responded to Google stating any internal Google documents he personally retained went to the Department of Justice Antitrust Division. He decided to go public with an on-the-record video interview after Google allegedly called the police to perform a ‘wellness check’ on him.

Vorhies claimed the company created algorithms to hide its political bias within artificial intelligence platforms – in effect targeting particular words, phrases, and contexts to promote, alter, reference or manipulate perceptions of Internet content. On his most recent trip to Washington, DC he told Sara Carter, “the documents he turned over to the DOJ will provide proof that Google has been manipulating algorithms and the evidence of how it was done.”

Greg Coppola, another senior Google engineer who specifically worked on artificial intelligence In Google’s New York office is another whistleblower that has stepped forward with Project Veritas resulting him being placed on administrative leave.

This comes on the heels of Google’s Chief Executive Officer, Sundar Pichai telling the House Judiciary Committee in December of 2018, the search engine was not biased against conservatives. He went on to tell the Committee, “things like relevance, freshness, popularity, and how other people are using it” are what drives the search results.

Most recently, in March of 2019, Pichai met with President Trump in the Oval Office to talk about the U.S. military, and political fairness.

With all of the recent exposure, other mainstream media outlets other than Fox News, who pride themselves on not being bias, should be covering this story. However, the latest stories related to Google coming from CNN cover a wide range of topics such as, social media censorship, Tulsi Gabbard suing Google after the Democratic Debate, and in one of their most recent stories stating, “the President frequently claims that he’s a victim of Google, Facebook and Twitter’s anti-conservative bias.”

CNN is not the only mainstream media company to shy away from highlighting the latest findings from the now shamed Google engineers. When looking into the reporting of other media outlets such as MSNBC, NBC, the New York Times, and many others continue to invoke their fifth amendment privilege by staying far away from writing on any part of the recent whistleblowing.
