The Daily Beast criticized CBS News reporter Catherine Herridge after she broke the story of the Department of Justice dropping charges against former national security adviser Michael Flynn.

The Daily Beast headlined its critique, “The New CBS Reporter Driving Democrats — and Some of Her Own Colleagues — Crazy.” The article noted her “long history on the justice beat” and highlighted her ability to have “a massive mainstream media platform” to promote her investigative reporting after working for Fox News for two decades and now at CBS News.

But the outlet lamented that in her interview with U.S. Attorney General Bill Barr, she chose “leading questions” and failed to “aggressively” press him about his decision to drop charges against Flynn. It also said she “lobbed softball questions” during the interview and allegedly “rhetorically handed Barr the microphone” in the course of the interview.

The outlet cited anonymous Democratic Party sources which claimed Herridge has “become a de facto clearinghouse for conservative conspiracy theorists” and that she “regularly declines to ask their offices for comment.”

The Daily Beast included praise from other reporters, such as CNN host Jake Tapper and Daily Beast contributor Mark Zaid.

CBS News “lauded Herridge” for her “aggressive reporting” and landing the interview with Barr, but it paled in comparison to the amount of criticism of Herridge’s work. The outlet admitted that “Herridge has been careful to never cross the line into overt advocacy,” which debunked their main argument about Herridge’s alleged partisanship.
