Cuomo underreported COVID deaths while media and Fauci cheered him on

New York’s new governor, Kathy Hochul, revealed today that under former Governor Andrew Cuomo, the state had under-reported the number of COVID deaths by over 20%, an unsurprising development given how eager the media was to praise Cuomo during the worse of the pandemic in New York.
“New York now reports nearly 55,400 people have died of COVID-19 in New York, based on death certificate data submitted to the CDC, up from about 43,400 that Gov. Cuomo had reported to the public as of Monday, his last day in office,” says ABCNews.
The Associated Press reported in July 2021 that there was a discrepancy between the numbers that New York reported and the official tab kept by the Center for Disease Control.
Which begs the question: What took the AP and other media outlets so long? After all, New York has been besieged by COVID since the earliest days of the pandemic 18 months ago.
Oh, that’s right.
The media in America was busy giving out an Emmy Award and a fat book contract to the man they loved to love literally, that Cuomosexual, Andrew Cuomo.
That’s what happens when the media emboldens their ideological allies rather than holding them accountable.
It was just three months ago that the New York Times reported that Cuomo was expected to rake in $5 million from the book deal he signed with Penguin Random House about his “heroic” leadership of New York during the pandemic.
“The governor received the bulk of the money last year, $3.12 million, and under the contract, he is set to be paid another $2 million in installments over the next two years, state officials said,” reported the Times.
And let’s not forget the valuable puff Cuomo got from that other COVID self-promoter, St. Anthony Fauci, the patron saint of progressive TV producers, who wasn’t afraid to let the glow from his halo shine on Cuomo just a bit.
“We know that, when you do it properly, you bring down those cases. We have done it. We have done it in New York,” Fauci said in July 2020, according to CNBC.
“New York got hit worse than any place in the world. And they did it correctly by doing the things that you’re talking about,” he continued.
Of course, that’s small comfort to the 15,000 New Yorkers who may have died unnecessarily in New York as COVID cases were shunted off to nursing homes by the Cuomo, creating what Accuracy in Media President, Adam Guillette called “an epidemic within an epidemic.”
Presumably, being familiar with the CDC, because he’s employed by the federal agency, and not by MSNBC—although it’s hard to tell the difference sometimes– Fauci understood there was a discrepancy between the numbers New York was reporting and the CDC tally.
And thus, the discrepancy between what the public was told about Cuomo and the truth, even by those who should have known better, it appears, could not have been greater.
It’s almost as if there was some sort of plot by the media and their ideological allies to promote the leadership of the most vulnerable of the progressive state, regardless of the facts, to protect liberal political leadership during COVID.
But that would just be a COVID conspiracy theory, right?
