CNN’s Jake Tapper: ‘This Line Will Haunt Trump’

CNN showed clear bias in its coverage of President Trump’s White House meeting with Democrats House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi and Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer. In a video article titled [1] “Tapper: This line will haunt Trump,” CNN stated, “CNN’s Jake Tapper says President Trump will likely regret saying he will proudly own a government shutdown over border security.”

During the White House exchange, Trump said he would be “proud to shut down the government for border security.”

Tapper defended Pelosi and Schumer, saying that they were defending themselves from the president’s “insults and his falsehoods.” Tapper does not examine whether Trump’s call for border security would be beneficial to protecting America’s sovereignty, taxpayers and public health.

“They directly challenged President Trump on his policies, his insults and his falsehoods,” Tapper said. “The meeting came amidst their fight over government funding and the very real risk of a government shutdown 10 days from now if President Trump refuses to budge from his demand for $5 billion of funding for the border wall he wants to build. President Trump in the heat of the showdown delivered a line that could haunt him and the Republican Party, saying that he will proudly own the shutdown if it happens.”

In the video, Tapper does not suggest that Democratic intransigence to supporting strong border security, including a wall, could haunt them, despite the fact that illegal immigration was a signature issue for President Trump’s rise. The concerns for border security arise after the Centers For Disease Control reported that U.S. life expectancy declined for a second year in a row in 2017, in part due to increases in drug addiction and suicides. [2] Part of the rise in drug use is due to increased fentanyl coming into the United States from our southern border, in part via China.
