CNN Photo Editor Resigns After Anti-Semitic Tweets

CNN photo editor Mohammed Elshamy resigned after scrutiny about his anti-Semitic Tweets about Jews and Israel, including Tweets reportedly celebrating the deaths of “Jewish pigs.”

“CNN has accepted Elshamy’s resignation letter, the network informed Mediaite in a statement Thursday night,” reported Mediaite’s Caleb Howe [1]. According to Howe, the CNN statement about the resignation stated: “The network has accepted the resignation of a photo editor, who joined CNN earlier this year, after anti-Semitic statements he’d made in 2011 came to light. CNN is committed to maintaining a workplace in which every employee feels safe, secure and free from discrimination regardless of race, gender, sexual orientation or religion.”

Howe reported about how the controversy came to light: “Arthur Schwartz, a GOP operative, first resurfaced the posts from CNN photo editor Mohammed Elshamy. He did so by tagging CNN’s Andrew Kaczynski who, with Nathan McDermott, published an article [2] about their own unearthing of past statements by Trump Treasury pick and former Fox News personality Monica Crowley.

Schwartz suggested CNN look in-house equally as thoroughly.”

Daily Wire’s Jordan Schachtel also tweeted about Elshamy’s controversial past.

“CNN editor *celebrated* a 3/23/11 terror attack at a Jerusalem bus stop,” Schachtel said in reply to a Tweet from Elshamy that has since been deleted. “The bombing killed a Christian woman who was studying in Israel  & severely injured a 14-year-old Israeli girl who would succumb to her wounds 6 yrs later. The attack injured 39 more.”

“CNN guy appears to have implicated himself in several terrorist acts. Now he’s at @cnni [5],”  Schachtel continued as he posted a reply to several screenshots of Elshamy Tweets praising terrorist acts and bemoaning Arab Egyptian leaders who Elshamy said “lick Jewish legs.”

When Elshamy Tweeted out “Hamas flag here too 🙂 <3” (The <3 symbol is a digital symbol for a heart or love), Schachtel replied:

“Supporter of US-designated terrorist organization. #ThisisCNN [9].”
