CNN did not dispute Kirsten Gillibrand’s defense of Democratic Party presidential candidate Joe Biden while sexual assault allegations hounded his campaign.
CNN headlined Gillibrand’s comments, “Kirsten Gillibrand on Tara Reade allegation: ‘I support Vice President Biden’.” The network described Tara Reade’s sexual assault allegations against Biden, but it did not adequately explain the hypocrisy of Democratic Party lawmakers when comparing Reade’s allegations to Christine Blasey Ford. Ford accused Supreme Court Justice Brett Kavanaugh in 2018 of sexually assaulting her when they were teenagers.
CNN wrote, “Gillibrand said she doesn’t see a contradiction between how Democratic lawmakers are handling Reade’s allegations and how they handled allegations levied against Supreme Court Justice Brett Kavanaugh by Christine Blasey Ford in 2018, which Kavanaugh denied during congressional testimony.”
But CNN did not explain the comparisons between Ford’s allegations to Reade’s allegations against Biden. The network should have included details that Gillibrand demanded an FBI investigation into Kavanaugh over Ford’s allegations, but she did not demand the same investigation into Biden. There have been no calls from Gillibrand or other Democratic Party lawmakers to force Biden to publicly testify about the allegations, when Kavanaugh had to do so.
Gillibrand’s Twitter feed also exposed the senator’s hypocrisy because she called Ford “a hero” during Kavanaugh’s confirmation hearings. Gillibrand did not call Reade a hero for her public allegations against Biden.
Dr. Christine Blasey Ford, you are a hero.
