CNN did not discuss the acts of violence and threats against conservatives, including the call by Rep. Maxine Waters (D-Calif.) to whip up mobs against members of the Trump administration.

On Tuesday, CNN host John Berman and correspondent Jim Acosta discussed reports that at a closed-door meeting with evangelical leaders, President Trump warned of “violence” from the left if Democrats retake control of Congress.

“John, these are some pretty fire and brimstone comments coming from the president,” Acosta said. “He had this dinner last night with Evangelical leaders over here at the White House, and it sounded like he was trying to scare them into some sort of enthusiasm to get to the polls coming up on these midterms.

“He is awfully worried about it; his team is awfully worried about it. And that is the way he put it, in very incendiary language to these Evangelical leaders, warning what would happen if Republicans lose control of the Congress.”

Neither man mentioned comments from Waters or the hospitalization of Rep. Steve Scalise (R-La.), Republican House Majority Whip, after he was shot by a leftist seeking specifically to target Republicans. Instead, Acosta said the president was “not really tethered to reality.”

“John, it’s not altogether clear what the president is talking about here,” Acosta said. “Obviously, we’ve had peaceful elections in this country for generations now. And of course, whether or not the Democrats would be able to overturn parts of the president’s agenda. That is also a sign that he’s not really tethered to reality on this one.

“Because, obviously, any bill that is passed through Congress he would have to sign into law. So if he doesn’t what like what the Democrats, if they control the Congress, are doing, he could just get out his veto pen.”

Neither man mentioned other examples of violence against conservatives and their allies, including a professor hospitalized for sponsoring a conservative speaker at Middlebury College. Berman did say that Trump referenced Antifa, a violent leftist group. But neither Berman nor Acosta mentioned that Rep. Keith Ellison (D-Minn.) tweeted Antifa’s handbook.
