Accuracy in Media

The mainstream media continues to bleed jobs, according to Business Insider, which reported, “In the last month, layoffs hit have MAD Magazine, Pride Media, Quartz, and Meredith, bringing the total number of media layoffs in 2019 to over 3,100.”

Business Insider’s Benjamin Goggin reported that this latest round of layoffs this summer is on top of layoffs earlier this year at BuzzFeed (estimated 220 jobs), Verizon (approximately 800 jobs, including at HuffPost, AOL and Yahoo), Vice Media (250 jobs), McClatchy (450 jobs), Machinima (81 jobs), and Gannett (400 jobs) — the largest newspaper publisher in the US.

Business Insider cited a Pew Report estimating that between 2014 and 2017, nearly 5,000 media jobs were cut from the market.
