Accuracy in Media

On the heels of the 75th anniversary of the D-Day allied invasion pivotal in ending World War II, former White House press secretary Ari Fleischer, a Republican who served in the Bush administration, questioned whether D-Day mainstream media coverage would have been fair and whether it could have hampered or prevented the victory.

“If today’s press corps covered D-Day, could we have won WW II?” Fleischer tweeted. “Would the coverage had been accurate, uplifting and hopeful, or dyer and disastrous, full of skeptical stories about civilian casualties, allied deaths, & Rangers who landed in the wrong spot?”

Fleischer’s observation also in the wake of anti-Winston Churchill sentiment on the rise, including Oxford University, which recently hosted a debate titled “Should Britain should be ashamed of Churchill?”
