Greta Van Susteren's Conservatism |
|
On August 31, Pat Sajak interviewed Greta Van Susteren on his Fox News show, asking her, among other things, about her political leanings. Greta, who hosts a nightly show on Fox, discussed her switch from CNN to Fox, saying that she had not been happy with CNN’s change in management and was more com-fortable at Fox, where Roger Ailes, a conservative Republican is clearly in charge. Greta tried to give the impression that she was not a liberal, but she admitted that she had opposed impeaching Clinton on constitutional grounds. She pointed out that the Constitution says impeachment must be based on the office holder being charged with high crimes and misdemeanors. Clinton was charged with lying under oath, a crime for which many perjurers go to jail. Greta also is opposed to tort reform, which is supported by most Republicans and opposed by most Democrats. Trial lawyers make millions of dollars handling suits for plaintiffs who want compensation for their costs and their pain and suffering, plus punitive damages. Medical specialties that generate many lawsuits and high awards to the plaintiffs are being abandoned by doctors. The result is that many communities lack doctors with badly needed specialized skills. Greta did not address that problem. At CNN Greta went along with the cancellation of an interview with Jack Cashill on the 5th anniversary of the crash of TWA Flight 800. He had produced a documentary showing that the plane was hit by missiles. He was replaced by Jim Hall, former head of the safety board, who had refused to hear testimony from eyewitnesses who had seen the missiles. Hall claimed all the eyewitnesses had seen nothing but the 747 ascending 2000 feet after its center-wing fuel tank spontaneously exploded. The absurd official explanation of the crash went unchallenged. Reed Irvine is the Emeritus Chairman of Accuracy in Media and can be reached at aimeditor@yahoo.com. |
