Now that we have learned who the sniper is, it is possible to make the following observation: Lax gun laws are predictably cited as a principal cause. Once again, gun legislation did nothing to deter or prevent these vicious random shootings. If anything, the near certainty that the victims and those around them would be unarmed probably gave the shooter(s) a justifiable sense of security. The drumbeat of America-hating and class envy preached by the Radical Left through the media, educational institutions and self-appointed advocates are far more plausible contributing factors. John Williams [AKA John Muhammad] is a Nation of Islam convert. The virulent bigotry and America-bashing preached by Louis Farrakhan and his cronies is well known, despite the scant media coverage. A selected segment of America's youth is being taught to resent the success of others as being evidence of their own exploitation. Any disproportionate representation with respect to poverty, prosecution and incarceration is characterized as a direct consequence of an inherent evil that permeates American society. Those who would have the temerity to suggest that these real inequities may be in part self-perpetuating and reinforced by a Culture of Victimhood are smeared as racists. Mr. Williams/Muhammad has been repeatedly heard alternately praising the September 11th killers and condemning what he considers the institutionalized injustice perpetrated by this country as a whole upon 'his people.' This mindset is neither original nor isolated. An entire generation has been encouraged to mindlessly hate America rather than to see that our society has imperfections that may merit peaceful reform from within. The young people of today have been immersed in a culture dominated by a cadre of the '60s generation that spent its youth romanticizing the likes of Ho Chi Minh and Che Guevara as idealists and revolutionaries rather than as the violent absolutists whom they actually were. The only real surprise is that similarly-kindled atrocities don't happen more often. For questions or comments, please contact aimintern@yahoo.com |
