The Honorable
United States Senate
Washington, DC 20510
Dear Senator:
The Foreign Relations Committee is reportedly holding a hearing on the U.N.’s Law of the Sea Treaty at the end of September. Before a vote is taken, we urge you to get all the facts. Accuracy in Media has done several articles about media bias in favor of the treaty. AIM is particularly concerned that inadequate attention is being given to the sharp decline in U.S. Naval Forces, from a high of 594 ships under Reagan to only 276 under Bush. An alternative to the treaty, some argue, is a build-up of U.S. Navy and Coast Guard forces, in order to protect our navigational rights on the high seas. You should examine this side of the story before you make up your mind.
