Dear Mr. Kneuer:

In their campaign to bring back the Fairness Doctrine, in order to silence conservative talk radio, Reps. John Dingell and Ed Markey have requested that you conduct a study linking broadcasters to “hate crimes.” This is completely inappropriate and improper. The federal government should not be in the business of monitoring political programming. We hope that you inform Reps. Dingell and Markey that your agency cannot undertake such study. What we could use from your agency is a report on how the abolition of the Fairness Doctrine led to more media diversity and choice. Such a study might make it harder for a liberal-controlled FCC to reinstate the Fairness Doctrine.
