Mr. Karl Rove
Adviser to the President
The White House
1600 Pennsylvania Ave. NW
Washington, D.C. 20500
Dear Mr. Rove:
The nomination of Bernard Kerik as Homeland Security Secretary was a fiasco, but it was also shocking to learn about the dismissal of Clark Kent Ervin, who had a recess appointment from President Bush as Inspector General at the department. He was a man of integrity and principle who was trying to make the American people safer and more secure. He rooted out waste, fraud and abuse in the department. He should have been invited to the White House for a ceremony and an award. What’s more, the White House should have renominated him to that post and demanded that the Senate have a vote to confirm him. If you do not fight for the good people you have at that department, it will continue to flounder, leaving the American people more vulnerable to terrorist attack.
