Dear Mr. Roberts:
In fairness to Dan Rather, who has announced that he is resigning from anchoring the CBS Evening News, you should step down, too. You played a key role in facilitating the airing of that Bush National Guard story using the bogus documents. You went to Dan Bartlett of the White House for a response but didn’t give him enough time to refute the documents. That was seen by your collaborators on the broadcast as a reason to go ahead with the smear piece. You should have called a halt to the story at that point and gone public with reservations about how it was handled. Instead, you played the role of company man and lackey for Dan Rather. Your journalistic credentials are in tatters.
