Congratulations on your investigation of CBS News. But as a member of the board of Gannett, the parent of USA Today, we also think you have a responsibility to hold USA Today editor Ken Paulson accountable for running the same story that got CBS into trouble. Your CBS report notes that CBS was trying to scoop USA Today! Indeed, USA Today used the same questionable documents and got them from the same dubious source. In fact, USA Today’s conduct was worse than that of CBS because USA Today used the flawed CBS broadcast as a reason to go ahead with its story just one day later. Gannett has suffered enormously from the Jack Kelley scandal at USA Today. It’s time to come to grips with this one, too. Can we count on you to do your duty as a Gannett board member?
