A really good read from The Weekly Standard on judge confirmations, U.S. Senate and the presidency.

True, the Senate doesn’t have to and in my lifetime, it’s sunk more than one would-be Justice’s dream of confirmation … and thank God. But there’s a helluva long distance between the Senate as a body not confirming a President’s choice and telling him to pound sand within less than a half an hour following the announcement that Justice Scalia’s passing. No class, absolutely no class and no courage demonstrated by the Senate GOP and most of the party’s leading lights. Scalia must be gyrating in his coffin. And to think this cowardice is promoted by no less than the Senate Majority Leader. Some conservatives.
The conservatives never do enough. They need to stand firm. There is no law that we even need all those justices on the court. We can do more with less.
Something in your reply suggests you believe conservatives should put their loyalties to their ideological leanings moreso than in the very documents that keep us together; starting with the Constitution. If you’re going to genuflect before it, and your pantheon of “originalist” saints, the very least you, (i.e. all of the most fervent ideologues purporting to be “constitutional conservatives” can do is respect the entire document…not just the parts you’re fondest of. Respect for the law which provides the underpinning of a well ordered society is an all or nothing deal. We don’t have to like the laws we have, but we do have to respect them and the authorities which voted them into existence.
So point out the law you are talking about.
C’mon, give the rest of the readers a break and stop this kind of “gotcha” banter in a forum designed not to be hogged up by self-created wannabe constitutional experts. This is beneath you.
As usual, you the hog, want to quash any replies. No one has to read anything I say. How old do you have to get before you grow up? So, what part of the Constitution are you talking about? Don’t have a clue, do you?
Ahhh, Rebecca, you made my morning. But I’m only up because my dog had to go out. Normally I’d be zzzzzzzzzzin’ and letting my mind hog most my conscious thoughts of how to make your day a total wreck. Have a nice one today. No hard feelings. Seriously.
So…no murder investigation? How convenient.
