Accuracy in Media

That’s what happens when you raise the minimum wage and ignore how small businesses typically operate (i.e. they have to make budget and a profit; imagine that).

This is what happens when liberals make the laws. I don’t blame the businesses for cutting hours and dismissing employees at all. Liberals seem to think that businesses are there to keep people afloat financially, which is impossible when those same liberals create regulations which prevent the busineeses from keeping themselves afloat.

  • IronChefSandwiches

EVERY time minimum wages have gone up, the right has shrieked about all of the jobs that would be lost. EVERY time. And then…they aren’t lost. A few, maybe, but the vast majority of this is BS. Same as it ever was. Makes you wonder why you people don’t learn from history.

  • IronChefSandwiches

Save some Kool-Aid for everyone else. The Dow is at its highest levels EVER. Businesses are making more profits than EVER before. Yet you sit there and claim that “Liberals” are preventing something. Insane.

  • wyclif

Wait, Mr. Iron. I’m puzzled by your reaction. Half of DC employers cutting worker hours *and* employees means nothing was lost?

What a fascinating interpretation of the effects of minimum wage law. Let me go pop some popcorn.

  • wyclif

Story isn’t about the Dow, though. It’s about jobs. Stay on topic, Iron Man.

  • IronChefSandwiches

If you read the headline, not to mention the article, it clearly states that they say they WILL do all that. This happens every time. When the minimum wage gets raised, they DON’T do all that. It’s called history. Look it up.

  • IronChefSandwiches

I was responding to his comment. You weren’t involved.

  • sox83cubs84

Meanwhile, last month there were far under 10,000 jobs added while over 100,000 people dropped out of the job market. Of course liberals such ad yourself and President Pansy ignore those facts.

  • wyclif

So, you’re suggesting that when the minimum wage is raised, no jobs are lost and hours aren’t cut? You need to go read some economics, Mr. Iron. Come back to me after you’ve read the books.

  • IronChefSandwiches

No. Nor did I say that. I said that a few jobs might get cut and a few workers might lose some hours. Overall, however, history shows that there’s very little disturbance in the work force when minimum wages are raised. I don’t know how many different ways you want me to explain this or how many BS side arguments you want to make, but I’m right. History proves it. Deal with it.

  • IronChefSandwiches

And mouth-breathing MORONS like you ignore the fact that jobs have been added to the US work force…wait for it…EVERY SINGLE MONTH that Obama has been in office. Do you happen to remember the guy in the White House BEFORE Obama? The Republican who did Republican things? When he was there, the US BLED jobs.

Yes. On a trickle of jobs were added last month. Yes. The unemployment numbers tracked up a tiny percentage. I’m not ignoring that, nor is the president you call a pansy (really, dude? that’s all you got?).

Oh. And good job on completely ignoring my arguments so you could parrot the right wing talking points you read on Breitbart. Well played, dummy.

  • sox83cubs84

Sounds like you’d rather call me names than have a debate…typical liberal tactics. The US economy is SUPPOSED to add jobs every month, and it’s NOT supposed to have jobless people leaving the job market every month. That’s what a growing economy is all about, and that hasn’t been happening under Ovomit. Over 94 million people are out of the work force…numbers never even appraoched during Bush’s 8 years, or even Clinton’s. Do you think you can respond without resorting to schoolyard insults? I doubt it.

  • wyclif

“I’m right” and “deal with it” aren’t arguments, they’re unwarranted projections of your grandiosity and megalomania. They’re also a weak reed to lean on, especially considering all the economic analysis that has been done on the effects of minimum wage law.

It’s no accident that youth unemployment is almost double the overall unemployment rate. And that’s because of the minimum wage. The only thing the minimum wage has ensured in the American economy is that people whose skills do not justify that wage will be unemployed.

The economist Milton Friedman said it best:

“The fact is, the programs labeled as being “for the poor,” or “for the needy,” [by politicians like President Obama] almost always have effects exactly the opposite of those which their well-intentioned sponsors intend them to have.

“Let me give you a very simple example – take the minimum wage law. Its well-meaning sponsors [like President Obama]– there are always in these cases two groups of sponsors – there are the well-meaning sponsors and there are the special interests, who are using the well-meaning sponsors as front men. You almost always when you have bad programs have an unholy coalition of the do-gooders on the one hand, and the special interest on the other. The minimum wage law is as clear a case as you could want. The special interests are of course the trade unions – the monopolistic trade craft unions. The do-gooders believe that by passing a law saying that nobody shall get less than $9 per hour (adjusted for today) or whatever the minimum wage is, you are helping poor people who need the money. You are doing nothing of the kind. What you are doing is to assure, that people whose skills, are not sufficient to justify that kind of a wage will be unemployed.

“The minimum wage law is most properly described as a law saying that employers must discriminate against people who have low skills. That’s what the law says. The law says that here’s a man who has a skill that would justify a wage of $5 or $6 per hour (adjusted for today), but you may not employ him, it’s illegal, because if you employ him you must pay him $9 per hour. So what’s the result? To employ him at $9 per hour is to engage in charity. There’s nothing wrong with charity. But most employers are not in the position to engage in that kind of charity. Thus, the consequences of minimum wage laws have been almost wholly bad. We have increased unemployment and increased poverty.

“Moreover, the effects have been concentrated on the groups that the do-gooders would most like to help. The people who have been hurt most by the minimum wage laws are the blacks. I have often said that the most anti-black law on the books of this land is the minimum wage law.

“There is absolutely no positive objective achieved by the minimum wage law. Its real purpose is to reduce competition for the trade unions and make it easier for them to maintain the higher wages of their privileged members.”

So, your “history proves” that the minimum wage creates “very little disturbance in the work force” is a complete and utter fallacy. “History shows” no such thing as what you posit here.

  • IronChefSandwiches

Now you’re just lying. “…all the economic analysis that has been done on the effects of minimum wage law.” That analysis shows that implementing minimum wage hikes has overwhelmingly positive effects overall. Yes, a few people might get hours cut or even lose their jobs, but OVERALL, the effects are great for lower income workers. Ignore the facts if you wish. That’s what makes you a right wing rube.

  • IronChefSandwiches

I can. You’re using pseudo-math provided by right wing propaganda outlets. There. No insults. Just you being wrong. The economy is far from great. Forty years of bleeding middle class jobs overseas has screwed us six ways from Sunday. But attacking Obama for it is childish and wrong.

  • sox83cubs84

And those jobs (and the businesses that offer them) are heading overseas because Obama has driven them there with anti-business regulations and the failure known as Obamacare. Not to mention that his presidency will end with him and his valued Socialist Democrats) having accumulated more debt than every president before him combined. Bush was a much bigger spender than he should have been, I’ll grant you that, but Obama has surpassed him by miles.

  • IronChefSandwiches

You are either very, very stupid, or insane. The jobs were ALREADY GONE, numb nuts. Blaming Obama for the current employment situation is insane. This started when Obama was in high school. I’m done with you. You do nothing but parrot right wing BS talking points. I live in the real world. Enjoy your pathetic, misinformed life.

  • sox83cubs84

IronChef hasn’t yet learned that Socialism is great…until you run out of other people’s money.

  • sox83cubs84

Liberals are always so entertaining when they’re pissed off.

  • IronChefSandwiches

I’m not pissed off. I’m astounded by your ignorance and ability to completely ignore the facts I’m presenting to you.

  • Jack Parsons

The problem with the minimum wage law is that it doesn’t work. It is a racist law that harms the very ones “liberal” politicians purport to help. Stats from the Bureau of Labor Statistics (BLS) demonstrate that while workers under the age 25 comprise only about 20% of total wage earners, they make up half of all workers earning minimum wage. Raising the minimum wage then is a poverty-spreading move that will lift no one out of poverty. It is not designed to. Employers are not going to pay $15 an hour to a worker who is worth $5 an hour. He will hire a worker whose skill is commensurate. He will also be forced to cut benefits. He will also be forced to cut training, so that even if he keeps a low skilled worker at the outset of a raise in the minimum wage that worker will fall by the wayside due to a lack of training, never allowing the entry level worker to progress.

  • sox83cubs84

Be a man and admit it…you’re pissed off. It’s OK, though…I realize that liberalism is a mental disorder and you can’t control your venom. Take some meds and come back when you’re feeling better.

  • carl

Politicians show how stupid they are when they think they know better then market forces.

  • IronChefSandwiches

LOL Projection is a bitch, ain’t it? Still no response to the fact that all the jobs left the country before Obama? OK, then.

  • sox83cubs84

Prove it. Show lost jobs under Bush’s 8 years AND Obama’s 7.5 years. And stick to news sources that aren’t Obama/liberal propagandists.

  • IronChefSandwiches
  • sox83cubs84

I read it, and what you linked to is what I’d expect from a liberal…pick one or two sentences out of context in an entire article and defend your position basedon that while ignoring the rest of the article. Plus, this piece was written 3 years ago…before many of Obama’s economic missteps took place. Finally, I have no respect for any Kool-Aid guzzling lib whose closing comment on a post is “go f**k yourself”…you sound like a 12-year-old in the schoolyard.

  • IronChefSandwiches

Let’s assess. In the past, you have admitted to getting all of your “information” from right wing propaganda sources. You are the only person in the US that doesn’t know that the country was bleeding jobs for the last four decades and instead are blaming Obama, who has significantly stopped the bleeding (at least as much as it could be stopped since we’ve already given our customer service and manufacturing jobs away). Finally, you continue to ignore all the evidence I’m throwing at you that you’re wrong. You are beyond help. Goodbye and go to hell.

  • sox83cubs84

And goodbye to you, as well. Don’t let the door hit you in the ass on the way out.
