ReadRight: It’s Tax (And Tea Party) Time

By K. Daniel Glover  |  April 13, 2009

This is the week for tax talk. For starters, today is "Tax Freedom Day" -- the point at which Americans stop working just to pay the government -- and the good news is that it came earlier this year than in the recent past.

But the bigger tax day is in two days, April 15. That's when federal income-tax returns must be filed. It's also the day when thousands of Americans will rally at "tea parties across the country to protest taxes and federal spending, and the event has conservative publications talking.

Over at the Washington Examiner, Chris Stirewalt argued that the left's reaction to ongoing the ongoing tea parties showcases its quick descent into arrogance.
Fox Nation, meanwhile, noted that Republican lawmakers aren't part of the grassroots crowd.

Here's a recap of other "ReadRight" articles featured on AIM's Twitter account today:

It would appear that AIM is in financial trouble. Instead of paying authors to write comments for its own site, AIM is directing readers to those of other organizations or publications, which cost it nothing.
It would be interesting to know why contributions to AIM might be in decline. Perhaps it’s the poor state of the economy, perhaps it’s due to the increasing paranoia, whackiness and far-fetched nature of AIM’s distorted view of reality. In any case, AIM faces a dilemma. Successful Obama administration policies could revive the economy, improve AIM’s cash flow but make clear that AIM’s prophecies about impending disaster were nonsense. Or, the Obama administration could fail to restore prosperity, AIM could collapse due to lack of funds but have the bitter satisfaction of seeing its predictions of economic disaster proven correct. My guess is the former, rather than the latter.
But then, with support for Obama even greater than now, what future would AIM face? It’s contributors have no ideas at all, only rants against, whines about and attacks on Obama, his advisers and supporters. AIM contributors would be challenged to develop positive suggestions and creative alternative policies. But their demonstrated mindlessness makes it pretty clear they can’t contribute to any intellectual revival of American conservatism.
