Bernie Sanders’s line of questioning to Trump nominee Russell Vought sparked a firestorm among Christians when Sanders asked about Vought’s views on damnation. Vought is nominated to be the deputy secretary at the Office of Management and Budget (OMB) and was on the Hill for a hearing.

Christians denounced the line of questioning as a type of religious litmus test, which would be worrisome if it was.

It appears that Sanders’ line of questioning focused on how Vought’s Christian beliefs on damnation were Islamophobic. It was due to Vought’s support of his alma mater, Wheaton College, for firing a professor over remarks on religion in 2015 and a piece that Vought had written supporting Wheaton College’s decision.

Was Senator Sanders out of line by asking questions on damnation and Christianity?

I wonder what Sanders thinks about damnation and his hero Soviet socialist icon and mass murderer Vladimir Lenin? Now there’s a real world application. Sanders is nothing but a useful idiot, as his hero would say.
