WASHINGTON — The peace talks regarding the Syrian civil war will not end well, as both sides disagree on a final agreement.

20130907_SYRIA_assad_2013_LARGEReuters reported that this past Wednesday, Syrian President Bashar al-Assad said that he will not step aside from his position of power.

Syrian rebels insist that Assad step down from power in order to bring a peace agreement and stabilize the region, but Assad’s resistance is not a good sign. It does not help that the U.S. deferred to Russia, which backs the Assad regime, to negotiate a chemical weapons disarmament deal. The U.S. was embarrassed and Obama’s foreign policy abilities came under fire by foreign and domestic pundits and press.

The talks will take place in Geneva, Switzerland starting in January 2014.
