North Korea threatens South Korea with destruction

PYONGYANG — North Korea dropped another bomb, so to speak, and upset the West in a diplomatic meeting held for the United Nations Conference on Disarmament. This public statement came within a week after North Korea conducted a nuclear test and had the West up in arms in protest.

North Korea’s diplomat Jon Yong Ryong said during the discussion, “As the saying goes, a new-born puppy knows no fear of a tiger. South Korea’s erratic behavior would only herald its final destruction,” North Korean diplomat Jon Yong Ryong told the meeting.

Spanish Ambassador was baffled by these inflammatory remarks and this same sentiment was echoed by other Western nations and South Korea. Catalina said that “In the 30 years of my career I’ve never heard anything like it and it seems to me that we are not speaking about something that is even admissible, we are speaking about a threat of the use of force that is prohibited by Article 2.4 of the United Nations charter”.

British Ambassador Joanne Adamson called the North Korean remarks “completely inappropriate” and the U.S. Ambassador Caroline Kennedy said it was “offensive”.

Russia and China, key North Korean allies, were in attendance in the meeting but did not make any comment on the situation.

South Korea has threatened their northern neighbor with a pre-emptive strike if they feel a threat is imminent. North Korea’s illegal test of a nuclear bomb while under U.N. sanctions has escalated tensions in the Far East, on top of the island spats between Japan and China.
