WASHINGTON — Turmoil and unrest in Iraq continues as a motorcycle bomb killed at least 31 people this past week. The bomb detonated in the capital city of Baghdad.
Reuters reported that a motorcycle, full of explosives, blew up in the Baghdad neighborhood of Sadr City while Islamist, al-Qaeda-linked militants targeted Shi’a neighborhoods.
The motorcycle bomb detonated in a marketplace for second-hand bikes, in a mostly Shi’a Muslim neighborhood last Thursday afternoon. Most of the victims were young men.
The country of Iraq has seen violence rack the countryside as al-Qaeda militants, mostly affiliated with the Islamic State of Iraq and the Levant group, have targeted Shi’a Muslims. These militants are Sunni Muslims.
