Media keeps misreporting Abortion statistics, U.S. leans pro-life

WASHINGTON — Would it be shocking to hear that more people lean pro-life than pro-choice? This is what we recently discovered in analyzing the polling data available from the Gallup organization.

pro life [1]As stated in our previous newswire, the topic of abortion is something that most Americans have an opinion on. In the latest survey completed early this year, Gallup [2] found that 48% of Americans polled say they consider themselves ‘pro-life’ and 44% are ‘pro-choice’.

What else doesn’t the mainstream media tell you? A lot more than you would think.

Gallup also found in July 2011 that the question about “a law requiring women seeking an abortion to be shown an ultrasound image of her fetus at least 24 hours before the procedure”, the response was 50% of Americans favored this and 46% opposed. Also, if a married woman decides to have an abortion, 64% of Americans believe that the husband should be notified by law. When asked whether physicians should notify and inform the patient of the effects of having an abortion, an overwhelming 87% of Americans said they would support such a law.

In addition, Americans were asked whether abortion should be illegal or legal if the woman or family could not afford to raise the child, 61% of Americans in June 2011 said it should be illegal. If the mother doesn’t want the child for any reason in the first three months of pregnancy, Gallup found in May 2003 that 56% of Americans say abortion should be illegal in this case. In the last three months? 74% of Americans say abortion should be illegal if the mother doesn’t have a specific reason to raise the child. In May 2007, an overwhelming majority of Americans of 72% said that late-term or partial birth abortion should be illegal.

So are social conservatives really outside the American mainstream?
