WASHINGTON — San Diego Mayor Bob Filner could be staring at the end of his political career as his opponents are gearing up for a recall effort.
Reuters reports that Filner’s opponents are pushing for a recall drive via petitions.
The recall campaign against the San Diego mayor, who has not resigned after being accused of sexual harassment, is starting sooner rather than later. Organizers are collecting signatures for a petition drive which they hope will force the mayor out of office.
The petitioners need 102,000 valid signatures within 39 days (or by September 26) to qualify for a recall vote on the ballot.
Filner has been accused of groping and touching 16 women, yet has sought therapy and has not resigned even after increasing news coverage and pressure to do so.
