WASHINGTON — Ray Nagin, former Democratic mayor of New Orleans, has been sentenced to ten years in prison for corruption charges.

ray naginUSA Today, using an Associated Press release, reported earlier that Nagin will most likely receive a serious and stiff sentence for his crimes, which range from bribery to money laundering.

Most major news outlets failed to report that he was a Democratic mayor, which is not an anomaly regarding corruption scandals rocking Democratic urban cities.

He was convicted on February 12 for accepting bribes from businessmen ranging in the thousands of dollars, for them to get city contracts or support from Nagin for projects in a pre- and post-Hurricane Katrina New Orleans. Money, free vacation trips as well as free granite for Nagin’s family business were forms of bribes.
