The UTLA replies about such a disclosure, “It could also have a long lasting impact on the careers of teachers.” One may ask why careers of sub par anything should last long enough to be impacted?
The article goes on, “Since the Times began publishing the series…The district has said the scores could be used to guide struggling teachers.” I’m trying to imagine the possible impact upon my flight with a “strugg-ling” airline pilot, or the outcome of being under the knife of a “strugg-ling” surgeon, or the results of having a “struggling” contractor build my room addition, or how does a “sruggling school bus driver” set with you mom and dad?
Are we talking no win – no loose – no score – little league games here? Surely today it is an archaic, cruel notion to merely and heartlessly terminate incompetence in this modern age. Sounds like we must, according to organized labor, reward not punish all dues paying membership regardless of performance records; yes? Or, is this discussion about those duly proven (at time of employment) ceritified professional hands into which tax paying parents; by law, MUST place their children for several hours per week, over the average spread of twelve years?
I support continued education, and training for teachers as in all professions. However, before entry into the highly valued field of education one should not be a teacher who will not be a student…and a good one at that, if this is not too much to ask.
