Global warming activists have some explaining to do after all four agencies that track the Earth's remperature reported that it cooled about 0.7 c in 2007.
All four agencies that track Earth's temperature (the Hadley Climate Research Unit in Britain, the NASA Goddard Institute for Space Studies in New York, the Christy group at the University of Alabama, and Remote Sensing Systems Inc in California) report that it cooled by about 0.7C in 2007. This is the fastest temperature change in the instrumental record and it puts us back where we were in 1930. If the temperature does not soon recover, we will have to conclude that global warming is over.
While one year doesn't make a trend considering the liberal use of temperature reports by global warming activists pointing to a warming trend this report can not be discounted.

Weather, upper atmosphere winds, precipitation, ocean temperatures, and every other natural phenomenon including earthquakes, volcanic activity, and most notably sun activity all have cycles and react to a physical environment far more complex than simplistic “global warming” marketers are willing to acknowledge (or understand).
Noting that the average global temperature rose or dropped in any year at a level of under a degree centigrade is almost equivalent to noting how my wife was not as pleasant as usual yesterday. Relax, there will certainly be something soon at which the “seers” can cry “we’re all doomed”, once again. Few things raise money as well as seemingly prophetic doom-mongers.

I have always argued that the earth warms and cools in cycles. I remember the most noted names in Atmospheric Science telling us all in the 70’s that all indications are that the Earth is going to go through another ice age . Global cooling was going to be devastating . I had visions of wooley mamoths waltzing down broadway in NYC . That didn’t happen but a lot of People were scared out of their wits . Then the very same People said just the opposite 10-12 years later . They started talking about global warming . How can Professionals in the Science Community be 180 degrees wrong ?

The Question should be,"Why are they so Wrong”, The answer will be:MONEY,POWER of Fear!!

Since Al Gore slowed up his preaching the earth cooled. No more hot air from Al.

If there are cycles that heat and cool the planet over a few years as much as 0.7 C, then combined with the persistent forcing of the elevated CO2 level, we can look forward to ecosystem collapses soon. Leemans and Eickhout (2004) found that more ecosystems collapse as warming speeds up:
If the warming is 0.1 °C per decade, 5 percent of ecosystems will collapse.
If the warming is 0.3 °C per decade, 15 percent of ecosystems will collapse.
If the rate exceeds 0.4 °C per decade, all ecosystems will be quickly destroyed.
“There is no linear predictability in terms of how ecosystems respond. The phenomena of collapse is one that we have under-appreciated, partly because of the feed-back mechanisms that we are still trying to understand.” Achim Steiner, head of the UN Environment Programme, Oct. ‘07
Or, to elaborate on an analogy: I’d like to note my wife got so angry yesterday she had a stroke.

For Brad Arnold:
Everything you state in your rebuttals above is junk science. You’re just too much of a tool to realize it. Your kind is nothing short of dangerous.
Vladimir Lenin had a name for your type - useful idiots.

Now you’ve gone and hurt my feelings Joseph T. I notice you aren’t specific in your criticism, but resort to ad homin attacks. By the way, read this:
“Few seem to realise that the present IPCC models predict almost unanimously that by 2040 the average summer in Europe will be as hot as the summer of 2003 when over 30,000 died from heat. By then we may cool ourselves with air conditioning and learn to live in a climate no worse than that of Bagdad now. But without extensive irrigation the plants will die and both farming and natural ecosystems will be replaced by scrub and desert. What will there be to eat? The same dire changes will affect the rest of the world and I can envisage Americans migrating into Canada and the Chinese into Siberia but there may be little food for any of them.” --Dr James Lovelock’s lecture to the Royal Society, 29 Oct. ‘07
And this is for you Joe:
Long-time greens are painfully aware that the arguments of global warming skeptics are like zombies in a ‘70s B movie. They get shot, stabbed, and crushed, over and over again, but they just keep lurching to their feet and staggering forward. That’s because—news flash!—climate skepticism is an ideological, not a scientific, position, and as such it bears only a tenuous relationship to scientific rules of evidence and inference. --David Roberts, The Nation, 24 February 2008

If cycles cause the temperature to lower that much, then what kind of heat peaks will be experience soon? Maybe the global dimming pollution from all those new coal-fired power plants is causing some of the temporary dip in temperature before the slower warming CO2 pollution catches up?
