Rep. Grayson Counts the “Dead” in GOP Districts

By Don  |  November 5, 2009

Florida Democrat Alan Grayson upped the ante in his rhetoric war by takig to the House floor to name the number of people who would die without health insurance in Republican districts and blaming those estimated deaths on the GOP representative.

From the Politico

Rep. Alan Grayson (D-Fla.) is taking the extraordinary step of reading off the number of people he calculates will die as a result of lacking health insurance -- in each district represented by a GOP member of Congress who opposes health care reform.

His approach: Name the district, then name of the Republican, then enumerate the number of people who will die without health insurance based on a Harvard analysis -- suggesting that the members were responsible for the body count.

As he began, Rep. Phil Gingrey (R-Ga.) asked for the clerk to take down Grayson's remarks -- a precursor to a complain about the tactic -- which caused the House to be adjourned for a short time.

When the House reconvened, he began reading again:

"Congressman Joe Wilson, 118 dead."

"Is it really asking too much of us that we keep people alive?" asked the Orlando Democrat, who rose to national attention earlier this year for suggesting the GOP wanted uninsured patients to die quickly. "We know according to the Harvard study we will keep these people alive."

The health insurance reform debate is complex and the Democrats have only made it worse by piling on more government programs into the nearly 2,000 page bill.  It's not as simple as Grayson wants the public to beleive.  What people want to know is why do the Democrats think the government can run health care better than private industry and how much is this really going to cost everyone not scare tactics by either side about who will live or die.

Grayson is truly psychopathic: he continues to engage in agressive and seriously irresponsible behavior with little or no feelings of guilt.

Grayson is acting the way the Republicans have been acting ever since they lost, only he is using the truth instead of lies.

They don’t seem to like getting a dose of their own medicine.  Boo Hoo..

Have another rally, maybe this time 76,000 people will show up!

Nice tactic. Unfortunately, it depends on statistics - and we know how reliable those can be.
Let’s use some real numbers, some real people:
Perhaps he should read the names of the 16,000 people who are murdered in the US every year.
Perhaps he should read the names of the million babies who are aborted every year.
And while he is at it, he should post all their pictures on TV every night.

dennis, Grayson is living proof that Abortion is okay in certain circumstances, or perhaps he was aborted as a full term where they bring out the babies head and uses forceps to pull the brains out. He did vote for the sick type of abortion (well, it is all sick) but he must have survived…without a brain.

Grayson would not know the truth if it hit him in the groin, at least for him, there isn’t anything there to hurt.

He needs to be sanctioned by the Ethics Committee, however someone would have to teach him the meaning of the word…Nor does he know Respect, Honor, a Hater of anything American, Coward (the most loud mouth is telling), rapscallion, flagitious, the list just keeps on and on…

It would please me to see him get what he wishes on others… he has already wished for the elderly die for lack of Heath Care under Obama, Pelosi, and Reid.

I think he should go hunting with Cheney!

Hi Wesley ! ....Didn’t Stalin call guys like Grayson “useful idiots” ?  Is Florida’s favorite liberal democrat insisting that the Pelosi health bill will keep so many more people from dying??  Surely to GOD nobody with any amount of brains is going to fall for that crap !  Just where is the promise of immortality for so many of us in that bill ?.... What page is that on ?? ..LMAO !  Just goes to show that some of those leftie communist clowns will say and do anything in order to get their way !  They are so out of touch with reality that it is unbelievable!.....  And to “kookwatcher” ....I think it is hysterical that you are impressed with Grayson’s college records.  So great big deal that he graduated with Honors from Harvard. There are many people who graduate from colleges such as Harvard with high honors , but who also have absolutely no common sense or decent morals whatsoever!! He might have just spent most of his time lying and kissing up to a bunch of liberal left wing marxits professors while he was there, for all we know !  And speaking of college graduates in govt,  I would still like to see The Usurper’s college records which he had sealed.  Even though it is plain to see that “The Chosen One” has very little common sense or decent morals either; I would still be very interested in seeing HIS records!...And I mean ALL of them !

Get over it. Grow up.

So having more of the population covered by health insurance will not keep more people alive?
Invoking the all-capital word GOD does not make that statement less ludicrous.

So you resort to making up the immortality claim.
Your credibility has just fallen out the window.

Hmm… let’s see… Ivy League… no common sense… no morals… that pretty much encompasses the entire Bush Crime Family.

Anybody who bothers to read the data must inevitably reach the conclusion that the US has the worst health care of all OECD countries, possibly excepting Mexico, and certainly the most expensive. Fully 1% of US gross domestic product is spent on shuffling and filling out health insurance forms, because free-market dogma demands that health insurers be private corporations. There is an enormous waste of resources: Ohio has more CAT scan machines than all of Canada, and they’re mostly gathering dust. The profit-oriented medical system here drives US doctors to conduct far too many surgical operations. The Harvard study cited by Representative. Grayson proves that at least 20 thousand people – probably many more – die each year for lack of health insurance. But no money is saved by their premature deaths, because by the time they’re in hopeless shape they show up in the hospital emergency rooms and fortunes are spent trying to keep them alive for a few more days. Having lived in several West European countries and the US, I can assure you that the US medical system sucks big time.

Lack of health insurance never killed anyone. Anyone can walk into a hospital and receive care with or without insurance. Just another weak argument used by people that want more power.

Dear GK:
Let me tell you about something that happened to me several years ago in Virginia. I was suffering a persistent earache and suddenly became weak and feverish. I summoned an ambulance and was taken to the local hospital. There I was tested, given some antibiotics and discharged. I was insured by Medicaid because I was unemployed at the time. It was nighttime and transportation was scarce. I phoned for a taxicab, but it took hours before one arrived. As I dozed in the hospital lobby waiting for a cab, the staff became quite agitated, and made several efforts to get me to leave the hospital as soon as possible, cab or no cab. I found their behavior peculiar, but made no remark. Eventually I decamped and made it back to my dwelling at the time, a homeless shelter in Washington, DC. There I lay on my bunk for a day and a night, in semi-conscious condition, ate and drank nothing for 24 hours, and completely forgot to take the antibiotics. Eventually I roused myself enough to ask to be taken to a hospital, a different one this time. By the time I arrived at the hospital I was unconscious and remained so for two whole weeks, being fed intravenously. It turned out that I was suffering from bacterial meningitis. I eventually recovered completely.

The behavior of the staff at that hospital in Virginia leads me to suspect very strongly that they knew I was about to keel over and they wanted me off the premises lickety-split, so they wouldn’t have to care for me, despite my Medicaid insurance. They could tell by my somnolent state that I might not be able to take the medication they gave me. As a result of delay in treatment, my condition became much worse and the ensuing hospital bills were astronomical.

This is the reality behind your naive mantra “Anyone can walk into a hospital and receive care with or without insurance.”

Not to speak of many cases I have read about of people who became gravely ill, so ill indeed that their medical insurance was canceled without notice and they were left to rot.

Political ideology is all very well, but when it blinds you to reality, it is a curse.

Dear Old Navy Vet:

I think people should avoid irony in political discussions. I does not lead to clear understanding. People of different political opinions should learn to discuss things in an objective and factual manner.

Your logic is faulty. If the hospital in Virginia had been diligent, it would have kept me there for a day or two at least, because I was evidently somewhat disoriented. For some reason they did not find it profitable to retain me. Perhaps Medicaid pays too little. Who knows.

I now know that my life was really at risk. No hospital should make life-or-death decisions on the basis of how much they’re getting from the insurance. Health-care decisions should not made by commercial criteria. In a single-payer system like France there is no incentive to kick patients onto the street to die, as there is in the US, and as happened to me. I’m not saying the US health care system is a “free market”. But there are perverse profit incentives involved in the health-care system that lead to decisions that are every bit as callous and inhumane as you would expect from a Fascist or Communist dictatorship. A single-payer system would be a lot more humane, and people would be a lot healthier than they are in this corrupt system.

The only people who profit from this corrupt system are the insurance companies. Insurance companies make profits by NOT insuring people, and if they DO insure them, by welshing on the deal if the insured gets too sick. In a single-payer system everyone is insured, so there is no paper-shuffling and nobody is interested in trying to shift the cost to someone else. Preventive care takes precedence. People never get as sick as they do in the US.

I’m an economist, and I have read a fair amount about health-care economics in mainstream professional journals. In terms of health-care economics, my statements above are merely common sense. People should try to learn a little more about reality instead of relying on their knee-jerk ideological reflexes.

Healthcare for profit is the problem.

But you have to remember: anti-intellectualism is part of the right’s mantra, along with deregulation and tax cuts, especially those skewed towards the wealthy [or as they like to label them, the “wealth builders”], even though these things are actually quite contrary to what should be their own self-interests.

These people need to read “What’s The Matter With Kansas?” directly followed by “The Wrecking Crew” to grasp how they have been turned into the tools of their own downfall and destruction. But it’s apparently hard to read through all that tinfoil.

Poor Carl still can’t grasp that it is his responsibility to take his own medication.  Grow up.
Kook…on the other hand is right on.  All doctors, nurses, ambulance drivers, EMTs, hospital janitors, etc. should all be volunteers.  They should work a second job flipping burgers to support themselves.  How dare they profit from health care.
As for the evil wealth builders, I must be one of those anti-intelectuals but I simply can’t remember ever working for a poor man.

“The Harvard study cited by Representative Grayson proves that at least 20 thousand people – probably many more – die each year for lack of health insurance. >>Harvard does not impress me in the least; it has become nothing more than an expensive place to learn how to be a Marxist. The only thing left to Harvard is nothing I think but a school for those who are out of touch with reality and a lack of intelligence. Bush not only graduated from Harvard, but also Yale…it too has become a bastion for the Mentally Challenged, the only decent thing left is the “Skull and Bones” society.

As for Doctors/Specialists and Hospitals, no one is even close to the United States, but not for long. If ObamaCare passes, as my Oncologist said, he is part of the Coalition of Doctors against Public Heath Care says there are 55,000 specialist (and growing) who will either retire, find another career or move to another country (Germany and the U.K. are moving to a Public Health Care system, while we are going backwards.

“Healthcare for profit is the problem.”
——————————————-
*Profit for Insurance Companies is a myth, as for as Corporations go, they rank #22nd combined with a 2.2% margin of profit, hell they are even behind Wal-Mart. ObamaCare will leave 25 Million people without coverage, and will not go into effect for five years.

My sister spent two months in the Baylor Medical Center in Dallas, trying everything they could to save her Heart (she is only 57 years old), never drank or smoked, and her Cardiac Team moved her up on the Transplant list to A-1, first available Heart. She got one from a 22 year old who died in an Auto Accident in Oklahomo (not a misspelling). She received a donor heart within 24 hours of the decision to do a transplant. Her Heart Team Surgeon told her that under Universal Health care, she would not have qualified for a transplant, given her age.

Does anyone actually think this Government can run Health Care? Remember when the Government took over the Mustang Ranch in Nevada…It went bankrupt, they could not even run a whorehouse, do you actually believe they can run anything at all? Cash 4 Clunkers cost the American People $24,000.00 per car sold under that program.

In the first nine months of Obama taking office, has tripled or quadrupled the National Debt. Are you one of those people (as those dems in either House) who blame Republicans for not voting for something they do not believe in, if I am not mistaken, they have a majority in the Senate and Congress, they do not need the Republicans to vote for a Bill which is bad for America.

“Your logic is faulty. If the hospital in Virginia had been diligent, it would have kept me there for a day or two at least, because I was evidently somewhat disoriented. For some reason they did not find it profitable to retain me. Perhaps Medicaid pays too little. Who knows. “

>>The Hippocratic oath that doctors pledge to, mandates them to keep you in the Hospital if there is something really wrong. That is the main reason why in South Texas, 14 hospitals had to close down, they could not pay their bills or the staff, thanks to all the illegal’s (yes, I said illegal, there is no such thing as “undocumented”).

“But there are perverse profit incentives involved in the health-care system that lead to decisions that are every bit as callous and inhumane as you would expect from a Fascist or Communist dictatorship. >>You cannot honestly think the Government Run Health Care will do “Anything” preventative. When I lived in Glasgow, Scotland it took me five weeks just to get into see an Oncologist, and another three months before I could get Chemo, so I flew back to the states, and received immediate care. I flew into Houston and my wife met me at the Airport and took me straight to The University of Texas M.D. Anderson Clinic (better than the Mayo Clinic), and was admitted the same day.

Do you have any idea why the State of Texas has a budget surplus, and the best affordable Health Care Insurance in the U.S., it began in 2003 when Texas passed Tort Reform. Immediately our insurance premiums were cut in half, we were even able to insure those who could not afford it (with the exception of Illegal’s). There were so damned many Doctors moved here due to a Cap on Medical Liability lawsuits.  Since Obama broke his promise to reform our current heath care, rather he went for a sweeping change. And since we also have no State Tax, many of the very wealthy have moved here from around the country.

Where does it say on a medical examiner’s report that the cause of death was no health insurance?

Where are Rep. Grayson’s sources?

Who did Mr. Grayson discuss this with in the professional societies that deal with pathology, mortuary, or funeral home?

These are the questions that he must answer NOW!

Nice post, Major!

Chris, Grayson does not have any sources to quote from, he is just full of hate. Just another Obama Hack.

Most of these Obamanista’s will soon resize just how bad it is going to get from the blind followers, when they do not have enough money to pay their utility Bills (especially if Crap and Tax passes). Then begin losing their freedom of speech.

Since no one is buying Al Whore’s Global Warming (which of course has been Global Cooling for the past decade. So the EPA wants to ban Beef, they have a so-called report which says all the flatulence from people is a larger cause of C02 than driving automobiles. So if we fart, does that mean we have to buy Carbon Credits? If that is true of Mammals, then why is Africa not covered in Smog…

There is a movement now to force Hussein Obama to give back the Nobel Prize, since we found out he had already been chosen since his second week in Office.

He has quite a few things which need an explanation, but we will never get a straight answer.

I believe that you, The Major, and myself live in a world of common sense, and refuse to be led in any direction than where our own beliefs take us.

As long as we are still breathing, we will speak out against tyranny, especially in our own government.

God Bless all of those Serving and our Veterans.

Dear old Navy Vet:

You say “When I lived in Glasgow, Scotland it took me five weeks just to get into see an Oncologist, and another three months before I could get Chemo”. The British National Health Service is efficient, but the health care budget is small, and there’s not enought to go around. I think Britain spends only about 7% or so of its GDP on healthcare, half of the US figure. So the problem doesn’t seem to be that government is running health care. Other countries with single-payer systems seem to do better than Britain.

You rightly say that physicians swear a Hyppocratic oath. But that is not an iron-clad guarantee. Look at Dubya: he swore to uphold the Constitution!

I graduated from the Free University of Berlin in 1979, for your informtion.
Most wealthy countries have socialized medicine AND THEY LOVE IT. The US military have socialized medicine AND THEY LOVE IT. Hong Kong is no.1 on the List of Freedom or whatever it’s called, you know, where they give a number to each country saying how free it is? But Hong Kong has a single-payer health system.

You guys are obviously not keeping track of verifiable facts. You’re just parroting a dogma because it happens to suit your glandular disposition. Just like my dad.

Dear Wesley in Dallas:

I find it improper to use terms of abuse like “Al Whore”. If you want to criticize Al Gore, go ahead. But it’s very unfair to use these offensive gibes.

Your certainty about global cooling seems somewhat premature. At least that’s what 4 professors of statistics found last week when they analyzed the data. They did not know that the numbers they were given reflected temperatures. They were just asked to find trends. And they found no cooling trend. If you cherry-pick the data, and then choose 1998 (hottest year on record) as your starting point, a mild cooling trend can be detected since that year. But if you choose 1997 or 1999 or any other year, no cooling trend appears. “Global cooling” is thus the result of intentional manipulation of statistics, which seems to be a specialty of the US right wing. (Although in all fairness, the Left also distorts data. However not as single-mindedly as the Right.) Consequently we must conclude there has been a Global Cooling Hoax!
Here are the links for your inspection.

Dear Chris: You object that if the cause of death is not listed on the death certificate as “no insurance”, that proves that not having insurance did not contribute to the death. This is one of the stupidest remarks I have seen or heard in a long time. Please try to jump-start your brain before writing.

Grayson is a posturing, sophomoric demagog. I find it interesting that poor Carl is offended that anyone would pick on Algore, (inventer of the internet), but bravely keeps his mouth shut during the vile screed leveled at Sarah Palin AND HER FAMILY!!

Oh yeah, and don’t forget all the nice things Carl and the other guano-heads had to say about Bush for eight years (and counting).

Hey Carl, if you ever get an attack of appendicitis, be sure to run up to (single-payer) Canada and get on the waiting list for help.

Poor Carl,  Have you stopped taking your meds again?  You attributed comments to me that I did not make.  I wish that I had.  Poor, poor Carl.  If only we had Obamacare then jammy posters like you could be cared for.

Dear Old Navy vet: Sorry. I was addressing somebody else.

Dear C. Roy:
You accuse me of NOT defending Sarah Palin from what you claim are unfair attacks. I never read any such attacks. I never read anything about Ms. Palin. You can’t assume that I keep track of everything that goes on, you know.

Carl,

You said my calling Al Whore was abusive language, have you looked at his life style and the size of his home (mini-mansion), and the hundreds of millions he is making off his unsubstantiated claims. He will also be selling and issuing Carbon Credits, as part of a new company about to launch. He has invested millions in Carbon Credits.

Would it have been more pleasing to your ears had I said he is Prostituting Global Warming. If I am not mistaken (and I am not) that his claim a few years back we would already be losing land to coastal flooding.

He also said we were killing the polar bears, if so then why have their population grown by three times as when he said such a claim. In his film, he shows a polar bear balancing on a small piece of floating ice…Duh…how do you think they hunt? Then there is this, almost 2/3 of his “reliable” scientists have changed their minds after visiting NOAA and their data. NOAA are the primary source of measuring water temps both by floating sensors, and satellite imaging throughout our Oceans and Seas. In all the polling data for the past few years, support for his charges have been steadily falling. As of last week, a paltry 32% believe there is or has been any Global Warming.

I stand by my statement, and always call it like I see it, using several sources of data to get a clear picture.

Then after calling me out on what I said, you turn around and do the same with Chris: “This is one of the stupidest remarks I have seen or heard in a long time. Please try to jump-start your brain before writing.”

That is not only a opinion, but if you are going to criticize someone, at least use a word which exists…a.k.a. “Stupidest”...

I happen to agree with Chris Post #29, had a Republican made the same comment, it somehow becomes more believable?

Something else, my login says Wesley in Dallas, I just never change my older loggins, I have lived in Houston now for 14 years, when real estate was still good, I finally sold my place in Dallas (the Los Colinas area), perhaps I should just go ahead and update it to reflect where my company moved me to Houston to work in our U.S. Home Office.

When I first moved here, it was typical to have the extreme heat and humidity, such as going over a month with Summer Temps in the 100’s+, but in the past several years, the weather here has been setting record lows during the Summer Months. I have a business acquaintance (and later became good friends) who works for NASA on NASA Road 1 in Climatology, which you must know they keep records for Houston, and Florida, as well as Edwards AFB, the alternate landing place for he Shuttles. They too believe Global Warming to be a hoax.

I have had the good fortune to have been able to be just behind the glass in the Control Room during a lift off, and have taken several free trips out to the Cape, and witnesses several lift offs, I especially like the night launches, and have taken some fantastic photos of launches from the Saturn 5 to the Shuttle. To this day, I have yet to see a rocket as powerful and the Saturn 5’s.

Wow, this post turned out too long…
