House Speaker Nancy Pelosi is disputing an intelligence report stating that she was briefed on waterboarding.

Nancy Pelosi is standing by her story — saying she was never briefed on the waterboarding of terror suspects despite an intelligence reports that seems to contradict that account.
A 10-page report released to the House Intelligence committee casts some doubt on that assertion, reporting on a September 2002 meeting in which briefers claimed to have given her “a description of the particular EITs that had been employed” on terror suspect Abu Zubaydah.
But Pelosi disputes those accounts — saying she had been told only that the administration had the legal justification for enhanced interrogation tactics.
Her statement:
“Of the 40 CIA briefings to Congress reported recently in the press, I was only briefed once, on Sept. 4, 2002, as I have previously stated.
“As I said in my statement of December 9, 2007:
“‘I was briefed on interrogation techniques the administration was considering using in the future. The administration advised that legal counsel for both the CIA and the Department of Justice had concluded that the techniques were legal.’
“I had no further briefings on the techniques.
“My understanding of the briefing I received is consistent with the description that CIA General Counsel Scott Muller provided to Congresswoman Jane Harman in a letter dated Feb. 28, 2003, which states:
“‘As we informed both you and the leadership of the intelligence committees last September, a number of executive branch lawyers including lawyers from the Department of Justice participated in the determination that, in the appropriate circumstances, the use of these techniques is fully consistent with U.S. law.’
“As reported in the press, a cover letter from CIA Director Panetta accompanying the briefings memo released this week concedes that the descriptions provided by the CIA may not be accurate.”
Maybe it just depends upon her definition of what constitutes a briefing.

The headline for this story should be revised as follows: “Pelosi Caught In A Lie – Again?” Nothing new here; she is a nasty, partisan harridan. Concur w/Jerry C’s assertion that politicians lie baldfacedly because they think we can be bought off with a welfare program here or there…

JerryC I heard a senator from WV, “Jay Rockyfeller” say We know what is best for you and you will get it whether you want it or not. Referring to socialized medicine. Our politicians do not care what we want and they think we are so stupid that we don’t know wat they are doing.
Hell! She wouldn’t be a real politician unless she could lie! They ALL lie! Isn’t “lying” a synonym for “politicking”?
Besides – all you really have to do to get her to STOP lying is – cut off her hands! Then, she’d be mute! No more lies.
Pelosi doth protest to much, which is why I have said earlier, the reason Dick Cheney wanted the interrogation documents made public, they show all who where informed and/or attended. Yes, once again she tells untruths, but only when she opens her mouth.

As a member of the Council on Foreign Relations and Trilateral Commission, I wouldn’t expect anything less from this vile, arrogant individual, Jay Rockefeller.
What’s the big deal anyway so Nancy Pelosi has lied once again saying, that she was never briefed on water-boarding a few evil terror suspects despite those intelligence reports that seem to obviously contradict that first and foremost statement.
No wonder we haven’t had any more terrorist attacks since 911. Heck, these guys are probably laughing their butts off in some nice cozy cave located somewhere in Pakistan.
why attack us anyway when they can obviously see that we are destroying ourselves from within. all the Islamic extremists are just waiting for us too collapse like a house of cards.
lying is nothing new for the politicians have been engaged in this practice since the beginning, and to this time. I will be quite curious to see if she perjures herself further once under oath in some circus like courtroom melodrama.
Paul, I guess that is to be determined whether or not the Ethics Committee will force the issue. Perjury in Congress is serious, if you are in Congress and lying, it is just as bad, especially if she is brought before the Committee.
I am not quite sure why it is a crime to lie to a bunch of lawyers; it is done thousands a time per day around the nation in our Criminal Courts. Speaking of which, we should return to the 1800’s and early to mid 1900’s, where when a Member of either House were caught in a lie, they were expelled. Hearing these cases was a Constitutional Scholar who was a practicing attorney.

Today with regard to politics—there is a real move beyond cynicism to justified skepticism, that IMHO, is traceable to a few significant changes in the way politics is conducted—and more so in the recent decade..
One reason is a wholesale abandonment of the principle of ethical responsibility; coupled with the progressive corrupting of the notion basic notion of “public interest”.
Today this has been so adulterated– it means little more than the interests of the party in power. This abandonment of principal’s leads one to complete loss of faith in the POSSIBILITY power can be won without sacrifice to an individual’s commitment to a set of core values and principles.
But the most significant is, IMHO, this decline by politicians is directly linked to the perception that we– we the people as a whole– allow is because they appeal to OUR self interest and thus we allow them.. Because they on our greed, our fears and our prejudices.
IN short politicians today think NOTHING of lying to any of us at ANY time … and in the public eye!!! This has to stop!!
