President Obama in need of a boost spoke yesterday to the AFL-CIO Labor Day picnic and told those in attendance that his economic recovery program is working.

President Obama said that on Labor Day it’s time to “reaffirm” the nation’s commitment to rebuild, and declared that the stimulus plan is working.
Speaking before the friendly crowd during the annual AFL-CIO Labor Day picnic in Cincinnati Ohio this afternoon, the President said that it’s time to ensure that the middle class remains the backbone of the economy, “not just a vanishing ideal we celebrate a picnics once a year as summer turns to fall.”
In rhetoric similar to the campaign trail, the President said this has been is an ideal that he’s been fighting for since office, and pointed the finger at those who say he has not brought change yet.
“Some people have already forgotten how bad it was just seven months ago. You noticed that. They have selective amnesia,” the President joked in feisty remarks more reminiscent of candidate Obama.
The President defended his administration’s efforts – after inheriting an economy “on the verge of collapse,” and crafting a stimulus package that would put people back to work.
“Our Recovery plan is working,” Mr. Obama declared, “The financial system has been saved from collapse. Home sales are up. We’re seeing signs of life in the auto industry. Business investment is starting to stabilize. For the first time in 18 months, we’re seeing growth in manufacturing. When was the last time you heard that here in United States of America?”
Referencing last Friday’s unemployment numbers showing that the nation lost another 216, 000 jobs in August Obama said that while lost jobs are still “unacceptable” there are some signs of light.
“For the second straight month, we lost fewer jobs than the month before and it was the fewest jobs lost in a year. So make no mistake. We’re moving in the right direction. We’re on the road to recovery. Ohio. Don’t let anybody tell you otherwise.”
Tell that to the more than 200,000 people who lost their jobs last month or to the teenagers who have seen unemployment reach a record 25% for their age group. Home sales may be up but so are foreclosures.
Exactly who has selective amnesia now?

Obama’s lies had no effect on my friends who are unemployed because of socialist unions and Obama. Obama and the Democrats are largely responsible for the economy and their lies of “Bush did it, have no effect, just like Obama’s decisions are doing nothing to rebuild this country. He is now considered worse than Jimmy Carter according to the polls and will be a one term president after having now been exposed as the unqualified liar and fraud that he is.
Any recovery that may be underway is happening IN SPITE OF Obama”s policies and decisions and not as a result of them. Obama’s policies can never lead to true economic recovery with the exploding debt and deficits. They can only lead to the expansion of government and trickle-up poverty as Americans are made to pay more and more for it.
I hope the ridiculous, myopic, falsely-euphoric, ignorance-supported, race-baiting and misguided “phonomenon” of Obama becomes a great catalyst for REAL change in 2010 and 2012 that will return this country to common sense and the proper use of the Constitution.
“Phenomenon,” that is. 
The actions of this administration AND this Democrat-led Congress are truly an aberration in American history. However, the potential silver lining is that this mistake will hopefully bring America’s purpose and founding principles back into proper focus, and Americans will get a fresh reminder about that which must be fought for if this country is going to remain strong and FREE.
It seems to me that the main problem in the US is that there is no single strong voice competing with Obama and pointing out his falsehoods.
I don’t believe the Republicans can afford to waste four years before picking a new candidate and leader -but that is how the system works.
In 4 more years the American people will have been propagandized so thoroughly that no “new” Republican will have a chance.
In a way it parallels the “Manchurian Candidate” -all these press conferences and townhall meetings and fireside chats will have the populace totally bamboozled by next election -brainwashed!
Obama has been given so much free media access that he will soon be unbeatable!
It is depressing to watch!
