Obama Blames Gun Owners for “Ginning up Fear,” Sparking Record Gun Sales

During his press conference on Monday, President Obama blamed gun owners and those who advocate for gun ownership of “ginning up fear” that the government will take away their guns.
Obama was responding to a question from ABC News’ Chief White House Correspondent Jonathan Karl, who wanted to know what the President thought about the long lines at gun shows and gun stores. Karl noted that gun permit applications are up in Connecticut since the Newtown killings.
Those who oppose any common sense gun control or gun safety measures have a pretty effective way of ginning up fear on the part of gun owners that somehow the federal government is about to take all your guns away. There’s probably an economic element to that; it obviously is good for business. But I think that those of us who look at this problem have repeatedly said that responsible gun owners, people who have a gun for protection, for hunting, for sportsmanship, they don’t have anything to worry about.
I’m glad he cleared that up because I thought it might have something to do with politicians, including himself, and the media, who have been calling for stricter laws on gun ownership and ammunition. Now I know they are blameless and the fault lies with the pro-gun lobby and the bitter gun clingers Obama spoke about in 2008.
