NBC Chief White House Correspondent Chuck Todd called the latest Wall Street Journal/NBC News poll a “disaster” for President Obama, and said that the American public is telling him that his “presidency is over.”
Todd made his comments Wednesday on MSNBC’s Morning Joe.
The poll showed that Obama’s approval numbers have tied his previous low of 41%, and that his support is slipping among core constituencies—especially Hispanics—where his approval numbers have slipped from 67% in January 2013 to 44% in the latest poll.
Todd noted that with 54% of respondents saying they no longer believe that Obama can lead and get the job done, they are essentially telling him that his “presidency is over.”
Except in the deepest of blue states, Obama’s sagging approval numbers have become a huge liability for Democrats seeking reelection. They have given the Republicans a golden opportunity to increase their majority in the House, and take over the Senate in November.
