Republican vice presidential nominee had to give the “speech of her life” last night and she delivered even in the eyes of the liberal media.

NBC political director Chuck Todd, weighing in shortly after Sarah Palin’s fiery speech before the Republican faithful, declared: “Conservatives have found their Obama.”
Right-wing radio host Laura Ingraham agreed, telling Fox’s Greta Van Susteren that it was the “night conservatives have been waiting for.”
Ingraham continued with high praise: “It’s one of the best political speeches I have heard — ever!”
Thematically, the three speeches leading up to Palin’s performance each took a page out of the McCain campaign playbook by attacking the media — a time-honored tradition on the right, and an aggressive strategy enacted over the previous 48 hours with strikes on leading newspapers and television networks, like The New York Times and CNN.
A trio of former presidential contenders slammed the Fourth Estate: Mitt Romney brushed off “the editorial pages of the Times and the Post;” Mike Huckabee said the “elite media” is unifying the Republican Party; and Rudy Giuliani told the crowd that the election wouldn’t be determined by the “left-wing media” (or “Hollywood celebrities” for that matter).
So it wasn’t surprising that when Palin took the podium, she said she had a “little news flash for those reporters and commentators” — that she was not going to Washington to seek their opinion. Just then, an impromptu chant of “NBC! NBC!” broke out among the attendees, who likely prefer Bill O’Reilly to Keith Olbermann.
But whether she wanted it or not, commentators had opinions.
MSNBC’s Olbermann admitted that Palin “clearly gives a great speech,” but dusted off an Abraham Lincoln quote to express his thoughts. “People who like this sort of thing will find this the sort of thing they like,” Olbermann said.
Also on MSNBC, Chris Matthews called Palin a “torpedo aimed directly at the ship” of the Democrats, while adding that the comparison to Hillary Rodham Clinton simply doesn’t work.
“At no time, during her entire presentation, did I think of Hillary Clinton,” Matthews said. “They have nothing in common.”
Matthews called Palin’s speech — written by former White House speechwriter Matt Scully — a “very direct cultural shot” at Barack and Michelle Obama.
Scully used to work for AIM”s sister organization Accuracy in Academia many years ago and I never considered him a Reagan conservative, yet this speech was very Reaganesque and has made the media squirm.

Well, it is yet to be seen how “effective” Palin might be. It was one thing to memorize and deliver a prepared speech that had been written just for her (it wasn’t even her own words!) and another thing to be able to debate real issues with clarity and accuracy. Speaking of accuracy, I also did see one commentary that pointed out that Palin’s accounts of some things weren’t exactly the way they really were…in other words, she stretched the truth or made-up some of the things she said. At first glance,
I first thought it was an early video of a Roseanne Barr stand-up comedy routine. I was a little disappointed that she didn’t follow up her little joke about the soccer mom and the bulldog with a knock-knock joke.
And, I still think it utterly preposterous that they flew in the father of her teenage daughter’s baby to stand in with them to be one happy family?!?!? As a retired teacher, I can say with no reservation that teenage pregnancy is not something to be glamorized and glorified. Teenage pregnancy is way too prevalent already, and to exploit such a situation on national television and a national political convention is in very poor taste. I was a little disappointed that Cynthia didn’t host a baby shower for her right there, right then!!!
Palin may have come out loud, but the substance was just not there, especially when you remove the parts that were not true. Hopefully, the American public will not be swayed by a speech that was definitely well rehearsed, but insincere and inaccurate.
JD, I too thought Palin’s speech was an early video of Rosanne Barr’s standup comedy routine. It’s so obvious how much they look alike. I’m sure their DNA is a perfect match because all identical twins share the same DNA.
I hope when you were teaching you didn’t teach drivers education. With your eyesight you would be directing kids to drive into brick walls.
As a teacher why didn’t you do your job in preventing teenage pregnancies instead of blaming Sarah Palin for glamorizing teenage pregnancies? After all, the Democrats are all for taking away parents rights and advocate public schools raise their children. Where you worked were kids allowed to have abortions without parental permission?
The substance was there. That’s why left wingers have been all over the internet bashing and telling lies about Palin. You know that’s your one and only chance to stop Palin because she will be president when McCain is finished.
I thought the speech was quite impressive, but here’s a thought: IT’S JUST A SPEECH!
Obama has been referred to constantly as “an empty suit” whose only claim to fame is that he gives really good speeches. Then someone on the other side does nothing more than give a good speech, and A STAR IS BORN!
Ah well…it’s that liberal media again…
ALL WRITTEN IS JUST MY OPINION:
Palin’s impact was obviously too strong for the MSM to reduce to less than dynamite. That is quite a feat.
I watched a short interview this morning with a Foxnews female host and the managing editor of
usmagazine, which had a cover showing Palin holding her baby. The cover had “Babies, Lies,
Scandals” written across it.
The Foxnews lady asked the gentleman about his reporting of Palin’s husband’s DUI, that his magazine DID NOT MENTION THAT IT HAPPENED 22 YEARS AGO. He could not put FACTS to anything she inquired of him. In my opinion, he ended up
looking like a sophmore editor of a school paper
(who’s dating who?). It went downhill from there.
What I found interesting is that this Foxnews
‘reporter?’ said to learn more to go to Foxnews.com, which I did. I found the video of the cover of usmagazine, described above. When I clicked on, thinking I would re-hear the interview, lo and behold, it was about a 3 minute interview with someone from Hillary’s ‘campaign,’
I believe it was. IT HAD NOTHING TO DO WITH THE COVER OF THE USMAGAZINE SHOWN ON THE EARLIER INTERVIEW, NOR WITH THE VIDEO SHOWING THE SAME COVER.
I found that quite deceptive. Had I gone to that Foxnews site in search of some other thing and happened to see the cover of usmagazine with the ‘Palin Witch Hunt’ captioned below it, I would have clicked onto it to see…and would have been subjected to this Hillary thing. Is that a back-door opening for their liberalism?
I feel this way: if the Democrats, through whatever avenue, want to “dig up dirt,” they could well start in their own well fertilized back or front yard!
